Show HILLTOP TIMES TIME S 11 March 8, 2012 Air Force Reserve offers post active-duty programs BY SENIOR AIRMAN MELISSA DEARSTONE 75th Air Base Wing Public Affairs S eparating from Air Force active duty may be a difficult time for some Airmen. The drastic change from military to civilian life may be overwhelming, but the Air Force Reserve offers two programs where Airmen can keep ties to the Air Force without becoming a full-time government employee. Palace Front and Palace Chase are two programs offered to Airmen who are getting ready to separate from active duty or for those looking to be released early from active duty status. Palace Front is a program for individuals who prefer to continue their military career without having a break in service. To be eligible for this program, one must be honorably discharged from the Air Force with a good reenlistment code and have no disqualifying medical conditions. "Palace Front is a program that allows an Airman, officer or enlisted, who is within six months of separating from active duty to apply and transition into the Air Force Reserves immediately after their enlistment is up," said Master Sgt. Daniel Nichiporuk, InService Air Force Reserve recruiter. Palace Chase is another program which allows active duty Air Force officers and enlisted members to request to be released early from active duty and transfer to an Air Force Reserve Unit. "To be eligible for Palace Chase, you must have completed at least half of your active duty enlistment and have no disqualifying medical conditions," said Nichiporuk. "Just because you meet all the eligible requirements, does not mean it is a guarantee; discharge is for the convenience of the Air Force." By serving one weekend a month and two weeks every year helping with Air Force missions, one can still be part of the Air Force part-time while being entitled to a wide range of benefits. "With the Reserves, you receive a GI Bill, which is separate from the active duty GI Bill, 100 percent tuition assistance, low cost health and dental insurance for members and their dependents, base privileges, a second paycheck and a chance to serve your country while living at home or in a city of choice," said Nichiporuk. According to afreserve.com the Air Force Reserve Command supports the Air Force mission to defend the United States through control and exploitation of air, space and cyberspace by supporting Global Engagement. The Air Force Reserve performs approximately 20 percent of the Air Force daily missions.
