LLOYD/U.S. Air Force Hill air transportation loading specialists make short work of Denton project BY MARY Lou GORNY Hilltop Times editor A pproximately 46,000 pounds of toys, clothing, school and personal hygiene supplies arrived at Hill Air Force Base on Feb. 22 as part of the Denton Humanitarian Assistance Program. It became the task of 9 members of the 75th Logistics Readiness Squadron to stack, bind and ship the humanitarian supplies for delivery to Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras. A Medivac training mission headed to the area had room for the supplies with a C-17 arriving at Hill on Friday, and a KC-10 the following Sunday. Approximately 19 personnel assisted in the project by the time it shipped out Feb. 26. The project included loading and inspecting the cargo tie-downs on individual pallets approximately 60 to 70 inches high and about 3,000 pounds each, on average. "For us to build the load from scratch is outside the norm for us," said Tech. Sgt. Byler, 75th LRS. "In our air transportation world here at Hill, we don't really have the opportunity to build cargo onto pallets." The mission of building up the load onto 6 by 8 foot pallets provided the opportunity for the air transportation load crew members to revisit their roots. "Normally we check air worthiness and do joint inspections," he said.
