"This is going to make a big impact for Ogden Air Logistics Center," said Anderson. Mohler added that another aspect of the DAU satellite site is its ability to bring in all component members to learn from one another and share expertise unique to their military service thereby broadening the knowledge base of all. "That includes Army, Navy (and other services)," said Anderson. "Not only do we want to bring in more students from outside the local area we want to also boost our on-base services: restaurants and hotels and also the community (services) outside Hill Air Force Base as well," Mohler added. A total of 37 classes are scheduled for this fiscal year and in Fiscal Year '13 there will be 55. Certification courses include such areas as contracting, logistics, engineering and program management. Anderson already has enthusiastic responses from course participants who enjoy the convenience of the location. "I had one guy come in and say we were a ray of sunshine," he reported. The course participant only had to walk two buildings away to take a certification course. Anderson reports he expects to find many other positive responses to the convenient location. For more information, contact Christi.mohler@hill.af.mil . 31NYN 31ac11N1 :111 0 SI 331A1 :13S Region," said Dr. Brian Anderson, resident professor and DAU Utah Site director. With a ribbon cutting Feb. 23, the Department of Defense and the Air Force reaffirmed their commitment to making sure personnel training needs are met, said Anderson. "We can also help the local directorates and units," he explained. "Say for instance, a maintenance unit is going to let out a new contract they just want someone outside of their organization to look over the material — we can do that," emphasized the resident professor. "I love to teach," said Anderson. "Last year I travelled 20 weeks on the road. By coming to Hill Air Force Base and being able to provide the training here, that will cut the travel down to about five (weeks)." The retired Air Force Academy squadron commander and Air Force acquisition experienced educator finds the position with the DAU a perfect fit. It's just that now he's a resident professor here and won't be required to take his classroom on the road. Both Anderson and the Hill AFB Program Manager for Acquisition Training, Christi Mohler, are excited at the new classrooms in Building 1238 (North). In a tour of the building Anderson opened doors to classrooms which include laptop accessible technology, additional space for breakaway sessions, white boards, and other technological advances. His enthusiasm boils over into the topic of visiting instructors as well. "Last week we had Woody Spring here who flew on the space shuttle the mission before the Challenger incident," said Anderson. "Here you have an astronaut who has been in space who's teaching a test and evaluation course." He explained, "Right here in front you, (there's) an astronaut saying that tests are important not just because the book says so but — 'let me tell you about my experience with it.' "Our instructors are practitioners," he said. "That's what sets us apart in my opinion." He does want prospective students to know that a course with DAU is a TDY in place. A full-time commitment by participants is required for the duration of their coursework. "If a student comes in and says, 'Oh, my boss wants me to miss three hours of class to do this briefing,' I just say, 'Well, have your boss call me,"' said Anderson. DAU is serious about attendance.
