Show Hilltop Times ^7 November 3, 2005 f 309th works toward aerospace certification the pack," said 309th Maintenance Wing deputy director Ross Marshall. "Having the certification is consistent with being America's best, and will give us a competitive advantage in the marketplace as we partner and compete for new workloads." Published by the Society for Automotive Engineers, AS9100 is based on ISO 9001 and adds specific requirements that are critical for the aerospace sector. The AS9100 accreditation was established to standardize worldwide aerospace quality expectations and to achieve significant cost and value improvements. Benefits associated with becoming AS9100 certified include providing access to the best practices of the aerospace industry, demonstrating commitment to delivering quality products and services to customers, bringing quality management system to a level BY SHAD WEST Hilltop Times staff The 309th Maintenance Wing is gearing up to obtain its AS9100 certification, the aerospace sector's leading quality management system registration. The AS9100 certification calls for increases in metrics evaluation, which ultimately create a closed-looped environment, perpetuating self-analysis and continued improvement. Earning this designation will exemplify not only the wing's commitment to providing its customers with exemplary services and products, but also illustrates that, as part of the aerospace community, it has met the critical demands the industry is placing on manufacturing processes. "I believe that being AS9100 registered will set us apart from the rest of with the global standards adopted by the aerospace industry, and reducing the number of second and third party audits. Additionally, achieving the AS9100 designation will afford the 309th Maintenance Wing the opportunity to pursue business opportunities, such as work loads associated with the F/A-22 Raptor and the multi-national Joint Strike Fighter. "We are currently preparing for a third party audit necessary to achieve the same registered and certified aerospace management system that is required of civilian manufacturing organizations like Boeing," said Doug Dynes, 309th program manager for the AS9100 Process Enhancement Group. To help with the process, the wing brought in Axeon and AQS Management Systems Inc. for assistance in achieving their goal.
