medical of the Salt Lake general hospital “with adequate compensation" but without the privilege of hospitalising private cases will be recommended by the present county commission to the reorganised commission early next year after commissioners elected in November take office Until that time no change will be made in the policy of the hospital for the reason that the present commission "dislikes to develop a new policy for a new commission” and also for the reason that the county now is reported to be financially unable to increase the compensation of the present superintendent Such was the position taken by the commission after lengthy consideration of the petition of the Salt Lake County Medical society that the commission revoke the privilege accorded Dr R J Alexander hospital superintendent to treat his private cases at the hosauper-Intende- nt pital Report Issued e A closely typewritten report was Issued by the commission outlining its position on the issue The report to state that it will recommend to the reorganized board of county commissioners who may be elected in November that a thorough consideration of the contentions of the Salt Lake County Medical society be given as well as the adopted resolution pertaining thereto of the advisory board of the hospital and will urge that a medical superintendent be appointed with adequate compensation and the privilege of hospitalizing private cases be revoked The necessary budgetary appropriation for this purpose will be included in the hospital budget of 1937 which will be adopted in November 1936 in find its way to Salt Lake county and a third in Weber county with the remainder scattered through the rest of the state Bonus bonds may be expected by Salt Lake City veterans on the eve ning of June 17 since they will be mailed from San Francisco on June 15 Because personal deliveries must be made Postmaster I A Smoot has requested that all veterans remain at home on that evening If they are not at home they must call for the bonds at the post office within 30 days otherwise they will be returned to the treasury To Obtain Cash To obtain immediate cash the veteran must turn his bond into one of the seven certification offices to be established in Salt Lake City where clerks will issue receipts and mail checks to the veteran's home within 24 hours The same procedure will be followed in Qgden but veterans residing in other communities must consult local postmasters who will send the bonds to the Salt Lake City post office to be cashed Because the government wants to avoid all possibility of fraud the veteran who cashes his bonds must in turn be personally identified at a bank before he can cash his check and send his dollars trickling into the channels of trade The bonus bonds moreover belong solely and exclusively to the veteran They may not be attached or assigned for debt nor may they apply on a court judgment or an O U They are not subject to any court order whatsoever and attorneys believe that so far as the money can be identified as bonus money proceeds from cashing the bonds may not be impounded Large registration was reported by school officials and one which might leave some strong antagonisms within ths Democratic a county organization The issue directly concerns Walter K Granger speaker of the house of Representatives and a candidate for the Democratic nomination for secretary of state But due to a combination of circumstances it might affect the fortunes of Governor Henry H Blood in that county It appears that Mr Granger who long has been politically prominent in Cedar City and Iron county has incurred the animosity of certain party workers They naturally would like to send an delegation to the state nominating convention figuring that this would badly impair if not destroy Mr Granger’s prestige in other sections of the state Maw Following Another group has been active in " sponsoring the candidacy of Herbert B Maw for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination A possible outgrowth from a situation of that kind would be the development of mutual attraction between the two groups The group concerned primarily with the nomination of Dr Maw might throw their strength against Mr Granger in return for some Maw support from those whose chief concern is to stop Mr Granger Apparently either by inteiit or natural political gravitation something like this has happened As a result there are three distinct Democratic factions in the county but more particularly in Cedar City at the present time One group Is working for the
