Show WaftntmaM ur btblU Bow u4 m act mp habit aov habit rwp ehaneta tUa U7 SALT LAKE CITY UTAH SUNDAY MORNING FEBRUARY T 23 1936 Program Celebrates Awards of New Knighthood Charts mn Knights of Hamilton School Stonehenge One of England's Wonders England has many beautiful sights but among the oldest and most mysterious is the Stonehenge on the Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire which is west of Surrey not far from London Stonehenge is a great circle of stones Some of them have fallen down now but the ones which are standing are so huge and tall that it hardly seems possible that anyone could have lifted them in that position The Druids of ancient England were believed to have used the Stonehenge for a temple because of its circular formation Others say it was used by the Romans when they settled in Britain centuries ago No one knows old however how it is except that it was built on Salisbury Plain when ancient historians 'first began to write about England The Stonehenge 1s a beautiful sight very old and mysterious BARBARA GOUVALAS Salt Lake City Utah Soon after school started last fall 35 children of the 5th grade of the Hamilton school with Miss Merva Morris and Mrs Lucinda McConnell as teachers joined the Knighthood of Youth Every day since then re- minded and encouraged by their teachers these children have carefully marked their charts On February 6 their 16 weeks were up their first charts were filled and they were ready to be promoted to the next rank in Knighthood To celebrate this event a clever program was given by the children A Knighthood play “Knight Roland” directed by Page Jacqueline Rhode was presented in fine style A castle costumes and beautiful shields were all mcjde by the children themselvs Musical numbers by members of the group completed a splendid hour’s entertainment The Our photographer got one of the scenes to reproduce for you photograph shows Knight Roland before the castle which he has defended alone all day in spite of many temptations to leave The lord of the castle has just returned and is congratulating the brave knight on conquering temptation and remaining true to his trust Those in the photograph are left to right in front of the castle: Marian Petersen page Betty Lou Poulfer king Keith Jarvis Sir Roland Betty Janke beggar Ellen Poelman ‘giant (disguised as a dwarf) In the castle are left to right Alta Wave Marsell Arlene Christensen Dorothy Jacobs Corinne Tipton and Laitue Maw Star Gazing Enjoyed As Favorite Pastime One of the most interesting pastimes I know is to sit and gaze at the stars in the evening In the summer my favorite nook is on the steps In the winter by the wlndovVin a dark room Chosen by me' for my favorite spot What do I see when I stargaze? Using my Imagination I see all sorts of people and things in star designs Star designs are very interesting My ideas of shapes of people and animals may be different from some other person’s viewpoints In fact they may never see the same designs I myself never see the same ones again Every time I look at the sky there is something different ' Animals are fantastically woven in star designs Tall skyscrapers greet my eyes I even see the alphabet in the sky formed by stars is an interesting me out of and keeps pastime mischief Star-gazi- ng BARBARA GOUVALAS Salt Lake City |
