pul A UIT of AIRSHIPS if machines prove a success the war department will ask for a mill on dollars for purchase of fleet washington if henn henri farman sell sells a his aeroplane to the united state government it can only be after an ac cep tance of the bids and a test under the united states signal corps an offer was made on monday to the war department tor for the sale ot of the french machine but it was de dined it was stated that the united states is now acting and making ex pert ments ts with machines both dingi bles and aeroplanes aero planes all of which re spondee to advertisements for bids the time for the acceptance of bids having passed no further proposals will be issued until after the present experimental stock is exhausted the government Is still sanguine about the baldwin d rig ble it Is re ported that it if the baldwin machine does all that Is required the war department part ment will ask for at least a mil lion dollars tor for the purchase and con st ruction of a fleet of airships foi the coast of the country
