He is also an ultimate conversation starter and an entertainer for their family, who often come to visit. Being a perfect companion dog, Hercules gets to go almost everywhere with his new family. The Toombs decided that since the Japanese emperor has Chins in his palace, it’s got to be for a good reason. Each sixth grade class was assigned a different ancient culture to talk about. Mrs. Hogge’s class studied Greece. They presented a play about ancient Greece. It was great! They also showed projects that the students made, and everybody came and looked at them. Mrs.Tatton and Mrs. Frost’s class studied Egypt. It was awesome! The students all did projects, and each project was displayed in a tent. They talked about pyramids and how they mummified kings and queens when they died. Mr. Weight’s class studied Rome. It was cool too. They drew pictures about ancient Rome. They also had a real sword! It was awesome. In Mrs. Evans’ class we talked about Ancient China. We decorated the classroom to look like scenes in Ancient China. We covered the room with black plastic and spray-painted the plastic with mountain scenes. Then everybody in the class did a project about China. One of the projects was Tai Chi. Six kids did Tai Chi in front of our Chinese temple. Tai Chi is used to relax your body and your mind. People would do Tai Chi in front of temples and anywhere else that space was available. When couples get married in China, they don’t wear white because it means treachery. They usually wear red. Two people did a report on Ghengis Kahn. He was born in Russia in 1226. He ruled four empires in China. When he died he split his empire among his four sons. We also did a project on the Great Wall of China. The Great Wall took hundreds of years to build. It was built to keep invaders out of China. Sometimes when people died building the Great Wall, they buried them inside the wall. The Great Wall is one of the only things that you can see from outer space. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Three people did a presentation on the terra cotta warriors of China. The terra cotta warriors were life-sized people made out of clay. They also made horses. The terra cotta warriors were made to protect the spirit of Ghengis Kahn when he died. We also put together a Chinese bizarre. It is a Chinese marketplace that sells food and clothing. People would sell things that they made or caught, like fish. We had an ad for chopsticks hanging above the bizarre. We also had real dishes from China! They were dishes that a student from our class brought from China. We had Chinese music too! The Chinese have only five notes in their music scale. The scale is called the pentatonic scale. Because of this, their music is different than what we have here. We also had things that had been brought back from China. There were pictures, dolls, robes, a Chinese Zodiac, ancient money from China, and a real lantern! Those were cool too. All of the classes and grades at Valley School toured through the fun at Ancient Culture Day! IT’S PICTURE DAY BRING FAMILY OR FRIENDS AND HAVE PICTURES TAKEN FOR THE HOLIDAYS OR ANY OCCASION.
