Ogden Valley Pathways Update The Ogden Valley Chapter of Weber Pathways met on November 5. Attendance was good, and the room was full of enthusiastic volunteers. Topics of discussion included the need to elect chapter officers for next year. The officers will be installed in January, and in the meantime a nominating committee will contact individuals who would be willing to serve. It is proposed that positions include a chair, vice-chair, and coordinators for trail work, trail routes, support for the pathways ordinance, and fundraising. Jeromy Williams of Wolf Creek Resort presented the group with a map of the trails being built there. Non-motorized pathways are an integral part of Wolf Creek’s master plan for development, and there will be trails to connect individual neighborhoods as well as links in the Valley-wide network proposed by Ogden Valley Pathways (OVP). A tunnel under the highway will provide safe access from the clubhouse to the golf course. The Middlefork Trail, slated to open to the public next spring, will connect all the way to Middle Fork and will be suitable for horseback riding. Brandon Fuller reported on the trail work parties. His crew has spent a total of 31 hours on the Pineview West Trail, and completed the maintenance there. “It’s fun,” he said, “and you really see the difference.” Snow has put an end to further work parties this year, but there is still a lot that can be done over the winter, such as planning for future work sites, and rounding up donations of bridge-building materials. Geoff Ellis reviewed the status of the National Park Service grant, which is expected to be received next spring. This grant of almost $30,000 will be used to pave the Eden Trail, to make it safer and more convenient for schoolchildren and persons of limited mobility. It is being matched by OVP money, as well as by in-kind commitments of materials and equipment from Weber County. It was noted that since the County’s involvement is essential to the project, the grant funding would be lost if the proposed incorporation of Eden transpires. A holiday party is planned for the next meeting, on Wednesday, December 3. The location and details will be announced as plans are finalized. OVP encourages open participation from the community.
