Robert David Owens WEST POINT — Robert “Bob” David Owens, 67, our beloved father, brother, husband, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully at his home on August 28, 2003. He was born in Pocatello Idaho on December 17, 1935 to Richard T. and Mildred Hall Owens. He grew up in Layton, then moved to Ogden as a teenager and graduated from Ogden High. He married the love of his life and life-long companion, Joyce Whetton, on December 17, 1953. They were always together and were truly best friends and soul mates. Bob’s greatest love was his family. He enjoyed having them over for a BBQ and croquet game as much as anything in this world. His yard was a place of joy for him; he kept it picture perfect and you could usually find him under a tree with his Westies, Clyde and C.J. by his side, or working a crossword puzzle. He also loved watching Austin and Shad play sports. Bob worked for Westinghouse Electric and the Ogden City Fire Department as a fire fighter and fire inspector, enjoying many lasting relationships. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the West Point 8th Ward. Those who knew Bob understood the depth of his loyalty, integrity, and generosity. He was the most kind-hearted person you could ever meet. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 49 years, and their children: David (Sue) Owens, Eden; Shelly (Mike) Anderson, West Point; and a brother, R. Gary (Marianne) Owens, So. Ogden. Grandchildren: Shad, Sierra, Austin, Andrea, Bret, Casey, Kim and Jaime, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Funeral services were held September 2, at Myers Mortuary in Roy. Interment at the West Point City Cemetery. Send condolences to family at www.myers-mortuary.com. Just Listed! The primary topic of discussion was the proposed loop trail around Pineview Reservoir. At workshops and meetings, this trail has consistently been at the top of the “wish list” for Valley residents. Geoff Ellis, Executive Director of Weber Pathways, reported on his conversation with the USDA Forest Service, which has been exploring the possibility of extending the popular Pineview West Trail all around the shoreline of the reservoir. The Forest Service owns enough land along the shore to make several more trail segments feasible as soon as money can be obtained for their construction. Most of this year’s money has gone to firefighting. Unfortunately, it does not look as if a complete trail loop near the shore is going to be possible. There are too many areas where the Forest Service land has either eroded away or is subject to seasonal inundation. Therefore, some stretches of the trail will probably have to be built along the highway rather than on the shore. Turning over one bin per week. 4. Sifting and bagging the finished product. that in the town of Huntsville, much of the trail route should be designated along public streets in order to avoid private property conflicts. The most likely scenario for the Pineview Loop will be a gravel-surfaced trail separate from the highway, in conjunction with wider shoulders on the highway itself. The gravel trail will serve hikers, mountain bikes, and horses, while the highway shoulders will be striped as bike lanes for road bikes. A wide, paved asphalt pathway for bikes and roller bladers has been suggested as an ideal trail between points of interest in Huntsville and Eden. Unfortunately, a suitable route for this kind of pathway will be difficult to find. There are too many places where the highway embankment drops off steeply into marshes or water. It has been suggested that there are places where the highway could eventually be widened within the existing right-of-way, and the presentday roadbed could become a pathway. Further ideas will be presented at the next chapter meeting, on Wednesday, October 1, as well as reports from other Valley neighborhoods. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. at the Ogden Valley Library in Huntsville. The public is welcome. Come share your ideas about pathways where you live! The Disability Forum — Becoming a careprovider Mary Etta Tubbs, F.L.E. Any of us can become a careprovider seemingly overnight due to an accident, illness, or disability. This is not a role that most of us plan for, and it is a role that can be overwhelming. Providing care for a family member can be a very stressful situation at times. In addition to the everyday stressors from work, family, and relationships, the careprovider is apt to be full of feelings of guilt, anger, and resentment related to the care. Here are a few causes of additional stress: The careprovider may not be aware of other sources to help. Underlying relationships don’t change much when an individual assumes a careprovider role. If spouses, parents, and/or children have strained relationships and difficulty communicating, chances are great that these will continue through the careproviding situation unless they are resolved. If they are not resolved, the careproviding situation will become even more stressful. Often the careprovider must learn new skills to care for the family member. Signs and Symptoms of Careprovider Stress Identifying the signs and symptoms of careprovider stress is the first step. They include: Short temper Exhaustion Sleeplessness Difficulty concentrating in eating habits Health problems Social isolation Depression Change Source: “Caring for Yourself . . . “, Claire Berman For more information, contact TriCounty Independent Living Center of Utah, 7005-40th St., Ogden, 612-3215, or www.tri-county-ilc.com Mountain Green 3 bedroom, 3 bath, den, 2 family rooms Offered at $204,900!
