Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume VI, Issue IV Page 5 June 1, 2002 “Ya Gotta” Love Spring and All That it Brings . . . By Lorine Murtagh, Ogden Canyon Club It was exhilarating during the early morning hours of May 4 to see the marathoners round the bend just below the Alaskan Inn as they approached the aid station for their cup of water or power drink, power goo, or vaseline from the outstretched hands of the Job’s Daughters, who volunteered again this year to help at one of the three aid stations sponsored by the Ogden Canyon Club. Setting up the other aid stations at The Oaks and across from the Perry Camp in anticipation of that first runner really got the adrenaline going. Lots of Thank yous for being here” were exchanged between the runners and the volunteers. The May 11 Spring Ogden Canyon Clean-up netted its usual eight-ton truck full of garbage of all sorts. The weather was cool and wet, but it stopped raining an hour before 30 volunteers donned their bright orange vests for picking up trash along the roadway, the embankments, and Volunteers gear up as they prepare to clean up Ogden Canyon . the Ogden River banks. One lucky volunteer even found a 20 dollar bill! That spurred others to do a real thorough cleaning job. Much to my delight, I found three asparagus stocks growing along side the roadway which I devoured . After the clean-up, Keith Rounkles, owner of The Oaks, flipped burgers for the hungry volunteers, and Steve and Jody Sniggs, owners of the GrayCliff, topped it off with their “to-die-for” brownies. There were enough prizes for every volunteer. Thank you Weber County and Stan Hadden, Weber County River Keeper, for supplying the truck, vests, and garbage bags. A good time was had by all!
