Ogden Clinic to Open Medical Center in Ogden Valley The Ogden Clinic has announced plans to open a medical facility in Eden to serve residents of Ogden Valley. Local resident Dr. Renee R. West, a Board Certified Family Practice Physician, will service the facility. Dr. West is an experienced family physician, having practiced with the United States Air Force from 1995 to 1999. Prior to joining the Ogden Clinic, she practiced with the University of Utah HealthNetwork. Dr. West received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska, and completed her Family Practice Residency at the University of Nebraska/USAF. The Ogden Valley clinic is tentatively scheduled to open July 1, 2002. The Ogden Clinic is a multi-specialty clinic that has been serving the Ogden community since 1950. The Ogden Clinic accepts most insurance plans, including IHC, Altius United Healthcare, and BC/BS. For more information, please call 476-2371. The Big Fix on Tour is Good News for your Pets The Big Fix on Tour will be pulling into Weber County on June 11, 12, and 13 in order to make convenient, low-cost pet sterilization available to area residents. The Big Fix mobile spay/neuter clinic is a surgical unit on wheels, traveling the state as part of “No More Homeless Pets in Utah,” a campaign to end the killing of healthy shelter animals by 2005. The clinic has already spayed or neutered over 5,000 animals since it hit the road in 2000. Spay and neuter procedures on the Big Fix will be offered at the following prices: Male Cat, $15 Female Cat, $25 Male dog, $30 Female dog, $40 ($10 extra for pregnancies, and dogs over 80 pounds) The clinic schedule will be: Tuesday and Wednesday, June 11 and 12 at the Weber County Animal Shelter, Weber County Fairgrounds located at 1373 North 750 West in Ogden; and June 13 at the Huntsville Town Hall, 7309 East 200 South, Huntsville. Space on the mobile clinic will be given on a first-come, first-served basis, except for the Huntsville location where residents can pre-register by calling (801) 745-9626. Space is limited. Animal intake is from 8:00 a.m. until full. Pets must be picked up later the same day. Cat owners must bring their cats in a carrier, labeled with identification. Dogs must be on leashes. Animals must be between seven weeks and six years of age. Pets older than four months must not eat after 9:00 p.m. the night before or the morning of surgery. Pets younger than four months may be fed up until 6:00 a.m. the morning of surgery. All pets may have water without time restrictions. Vaccinations will also be available for animals being spayed or neutered. The vaccination prices are as follows: Rabies for Dog or Cat, $10 BIG FIX cont. on page 4 Salt Lake—Tom Tidwell, Forest Supervisor, Wasatch-Cache National Forest recently announced that John “Chip” Sibbernsen has been selected as District Ranger for the Ogden Ranger District. Chip is currently a member of the Forest Service 2002 Winter Olympic Planning Team. Chip received a BS in Forestry from the University of Montana and started his Forest Service career as a seasonal employee with the Missoula Forestry Sciences Lab, and the Gallatin and Kootenai National Forests in Montana. He spent eight years on the Payette National Forest in Idaho, and eight years on the Logan Ranger District of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. He has 23 years of experience with the Forest Service in recreation, partnership development, winter sports administration, and vegetation management. As Assistant Director for the 2002 Winter Olympic Planning Team Chip was responsible for coordinating the development of the Snowbasin Discovery Center, planning Forest Service programs and projects related to the Olympics and Paralympics, serving as the Forest Service Liaison with the Salt Lake Organizing Committee, and representing the Forest Service on the Snowbasin Connector Road project. “I am pleased to have Chip as the Ogden District Ranger,” said Tidwell. “He is perfectly suited for this job. He brings a strong background in resource management, and extensive experience in building partnerships and relationships between the Forest Service and local communities.” Chip replaces Ruth Monahan who is transferring to the Sawtooth National Forest, Twin Falls, Idaho as the Forest Supervisor. He will report to the Ogden Ranger District in early June. Weber Planning Commission Denies Powder Mountain Zoning Request By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News Weber County Township Planning Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday, May 21, to deny petitioner Brett Ferrin’s request to rezone 2,681 acres at the top of Powder Mountain. The decision came after five hours of public testimony and deliberation. People came from as far away as Salt Lake City and Cache County to testify. Along with residents from Ogden Valley, representatives from Utah Waters, The Audubon Society, Save Our Canyons, and the Sierra Club were also in attendance. Ferrin is the President of Powder Mountain Resort Holdings LLC, which is under contract with the Cobabe family to purchase 12,000 acres of the mountain property.
