Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 4 Volume VI, Issue II May 1, 2002 Ogden Canyon News OGDEN CANYON ROAD WILL BE CLOSED Saturday, May 4, from 7:30 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. The Ogden Marathon–Utah’s Spring Run-off participants will be winding their way down the scenic and beautiful five mile stretch of Ogden Canyon. The Ogden Canyon Club will host the canyon aid stations. Volunteers are needed. Call Lorine Murtagh, 392-8743. CANYON CLEAN-UP AND DYER’S WOAD REMOVAL - MAY 11, 9:00 a.m., Alaskan Inn parking lot. Everyone is invited to come and help, so we can keep the canyon “litter and dyer’s woad free.” Bring your shovels and gloves. Group participation is welcome. At 12:30 p.m., a free outdoor cookout, and drawing for prizes, will be held for all volunteers at The Oaks. THANKS to our sponsors the GrayCliff Lodge and The Oaks for making this tremendous annual project so successful. Your generosity in pro- viding your facilities, food and prizes is greatly appreciated. The OGDEN CANYON CLUB’S ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP AND ELECTION DINNER will be held at 6:30 p.m., June 11, at the GrayCliff Lodge, Ogden Canyon. The cost of the buffet dinner is $12.00 per person (includes tax/gratuity). RSVP Belinda Rounkles at 399-1562, no later than June 8. Here is your chance to become part of your community. We need your help addressing issues related to growth in Ogden Valley and the resulting impact to Ogden Canyon; to help with awareness programs within the Ogden community; and with preservation and restoration efforts within the canyon! If you are interested in being a board member, or wish to recommend someone for the position, let them know, and let us know. Membership is open to everyone. Annual dues are $10.00. We’ll see you on June 11! WE NEED HELP WITH RESTORATION OF THE LIMESTONE KILN. We need YOU! We need funding, brains and brawn in order to complete this colossal undertaking while the weather is on our side. The Ogden Canyon Club, along with community volunteers, will recreate the kiln as closely as possible to its original construction. Thanks to all those who helped with the project last year. Dr. George Burbidge of Weber County Storm Water Management raised the issue of coordination of TMDL implementation activities with the master planning effort he is facilitating for Weber County. Dr. Burbidge has formed the Ogden Valley Watershed Committee to assist in this effort. The committee is currently chaired by Pam Mitchell of Huntsville. Membership on Ogden Valley Watershed Committee is open to any interested party. Issues currently being considered by this committee include: Wastewater Management; Stormwater; Drinking Water; and Pressurized Irrigation. After some discussion, it was agreed that TMDL implementation should be handled by this committee, since several of the TMDL implementation issues overlap with items currently being addressed Patriotism in the Snow A cross-country skier on Pineview this winter, demonstrated his patriotism in the newly fallen snow by creating this large replica symbolizing American freedom.
