With joy my son runs in to plea, “Mother, Mother, come and see.” And though my hands are deep in dishes, I think it fun to heed his wishes. Jeannie Wendell Tel: 745-2879 Fax: 745-2879 E-Mail: crwendell@msn.com For I have learned through motherhood That children share so much that’s good. They see the things we overlook. Expectantly, his hand I took. Radon is a known carcinogen and, according to the Surgeon General, the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. I recently helped some friends buy a home in our valley. In the process of inspecting the property, we had a radon test performed. The test indicated a radon level of close to 8 pCi/L (picocuries per litre). The maximum standard level is 4 pCi/L. As a result of this test, a sub-slab ventilation system is being installed by a licensed radon contractor. I’ve come across some alarming information in the process of learning more about radon and its remedy in homes that I think we all should be aware of. According to test result tabulations compiled by the Utah State Department of Environmental Quality (done for both long- and short-term tests), readings for our zip codes of 84310 and 84317 average Opinions expressed by advertisers, columnists or letters to the editor are not necessarily the opinions of the owners and staff of The OGDEN VALLEY NEWS.
