Along with condos and exclusive homes, future plans also include a proposed airport, 18 hole golf course, golf club, equestrian center, and a ski village. The Cache County Planning business specializing in internet software development, is under contract to purchase Nordic Valley Ski Resort for 4.5 million dollars from Ski Associates, an organization of stockholders who have jointly owned Nordic Valley for the past 26 years. According to Whetton, he has hired the Jack Johnson Company of Park City to help with planning and development of the resort. “The Jack Johnson Company, the largest resort development company around, will navigate the project through the planning process with the County and the Forest Service.” The owner of the Jack Johnson Company is also part owner of Wolf Creek Resort. The same company recently developed Wolf Creek’s master plan. The Nordic Valley Ski Resort currently covers about 88 acres. Whetton is looking at expanding the resort area to about 300 acres. Proposed development includes expansion of skiable terrain, four new quad lifts, a new maintenance and snow grooming facility, a 120,000 square foot lodge at the base of the resort, a redeveloped tubing and terrain park, and even a tram over the mountain into North Ogden. He also is proposing some upscale housing and condo development, and commercial space. Planning Department stated that current zoning does not allow for the proposed development. Whetton stated, “We have put together a very skilled and knowledgeable team to move Nordic Valley forward to become a premier ski destination resort, as well as a resort for local residents. Nordic is a staple to Ogden Valley, and we will ensure that all Valley residents will enjoy our growth. Jake McEntire of Huntsville and Chris Lemon of Ogden direct parking on opening day at the Nordic Valley Ski Resort. “We want to make Nordic better for our community. Nordic will become a year round resort with downhill skiing, tubing, and cross country skiing. We also plan on reviving the Coca Cola Cup at Nordic Valley. For summer use, we are looking at developing ‘concerts in the park,’ horseback riding, mountain bike, and hiking trails on the face of the mountain. You will be able to hike, or take the lift up the mountain to enjoy hiking and biking trails during the warmer months. We are working closely with major engineering firms addressing environmental and development concerns. We want this development to reflect positively on the Valley.” Whetton also says that his main goal will be customer satisfaction. Renovations already completed include some remodeling of the lodge. The Boarding House at Nordic provides ski and snowboard rentals, and skiing and snowboarding lessons will be offered. Nordic Valley, which reopened on December 8, currently employs 95 people. Whetton stated that this number would rise to 2000 if the proposed development is completed.
