Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 12 Volume II, Issue VIII 15 April 2000 Sports Snowcrest Girls Basketball Team Flies High By Katey Heward Student Reporter Watching the girl’s basketball team from my vantage point (the bleachers) I was really able to get a feel of what they were no matter the situation. Through thick and thin the team pushed through to the top. Between practice and cheering crowds, sometimes the team came back from almost impossible odds to win the games, making the overall season record 52. Which 1s the best record in four years, tying with the District champions of 1996. Being 1n gth grade going through. Just riding the bus down to the playoff game and listening to the team getting pumped up for a big game made me realize just how much spirit they had. Along and Britney Ure, knew how to inspire the team to do their best myself, I felt the need to cheer on my friends during their final game at South Jr. High. That game was to determine the District Champions. Thanks to our principal Mr. Stillwell, we were eI iy 'w H{ 11 i1 n I i coaches this year, the team could casily take Snowcrest to the Championships again soon. Cindy Baker and Pam Johnson were terrific confidence builders and suggestion givers to all. They definitely knew with talent, the girls influenced each other to help out 1n anyway possible, even 1f 1t meant recording “stats.” They really had it in them to take it all the way to the top. The captains, Lani Johnson able to take two buses down to South to support the team 1in their moment of glory. It’s amazing to me that there could possibly be so many people in such a small gym but, somehow, we packed everybody in to watch the most important game of the season. Between the occasional anonymous whistle blowing, aspirin throwing, and CD flashing, the team was able to play with more hype and power than I have seen in the years before. The team consisted of many young talents. With more coaching like what I saw from the what they were talking about. And who can forget about the people backstage—the ones who made sure the team had water, 1ce, and the were, and their time, the ones who gave along with the team, to make sure the team succeeded. The managers this year were Hollie Campbell and Amy Atkinson. The team gives you a special thank you for helping them out and making sure they didn’t dehydrate on the court. With all the talent out there, 1t’s amazing to me that so much of it comes from Snowcrest. It was a great season for all, and this team. season 1s dedicated to you, necessary medical tape? They were the little people who cared about where all the clipboards ran off to, where all the basketballs SOMETIMES GREAT THINGS HAPPEN.... ¥V Are you wondering how to keep your kidz busy this summer?
