Show Volume II , Issue VI The OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 17 March 2000 Eden Post Office To Be Remodeled By Jeannie Wendell Plans are in the works for a new addition to the Eden Post Office. The Eden Post Office current Eden Post Office was built in 1990, increasing the number of post office boxes to 600 from the 300 that were available at the previous post office located where Farmers Insurance and American Realty are now housed near the The Eden General Store. The current post office was remodeled in 1995, adding another 300 boxes. A new addition is planned that will increase the square footage of the building to more than 2400 feet and add another 300 post office boxes. In addition, panels will be added that can readily be converted to 300 more boxes to accommodate projected growth. Another restroom will also be added, as well as a break area and a postmaster’s office. Parking will be extended, possibly connecting with Maverik’s parking area. Huntsville has also announced plans for the construction of a new post office building that will be constructed on the southwest corner of Highway 39 and the road turning into Huntsville Town across from the Chevron development. Postmaster Don Young The Eagle Once there was a man living in a forest. As a hobby, he would pick up small animals lost from their parents and take them home to raise them. One morning, he found a baby Eagle that had fallen from its nest. There was no way he could climb to the nest to return it, so he brought it home. When the Eagle was grown, a naturalist came by and was shocked to see the Eagle on the ground with the chickens and ducks scratching for food. “Why, that is an Eagle,” exclaimed the naturalist. “No,” replied the forester, “I have trained it to be a chicken, and it will never fly.” The naturalist couldn’t believe it. He picked up the Eagle and whispered in its ear, “Thou art an Eagle—now fly.” The Eagle stretched its wings a bit, and then dropped down to scratch with the chickens. The next day, the naturalist came again. “This Eagle has a wing-span of 15 feet. He belongs to the sky.” But the forester replied, “No, he will never fly. He is a chicken.” The naturalist wouldn’t give up. He stepped out on the porch and whispered in the ear of the bird, “Thou art an Eagle—now fly.” He tossed it into the air. The Eagle stretched its wings to the fullest, but only for a moment. He saw the chickens feeding and then dropped down to scratch with them. The next day, the naturalist persuaded the forester to let him take the Eagle for a test. Agreed, they climbed to the top of the mountain and came to the edge of a high cliff. There, with the sun shining in its eyes and the gentle breeze blowing through the tree tops, the naturalist again whispered in its ear, “Oh, Eagle, Thou art an Eagle—spread thy wings and fly!” For one brief moment, the Eagle tumbled and turned until its fullspread wings caught the breeze, and he began to soar. As he climbed higher and still higher, the scream of that Eagle came echoing back down the canyon walls, and the two men heard him say: “I AM AN EAGLE—I CAN FLY!” Congratulations Taylor on becoming an Eagle!
