Apology Sought from County Commissioner This letter is in reply to the letter to the editor written and submitted by Weber County Commissioner Glen H. Burton that was published in the Ogden Valley News, February edition entitled “Commissioners Call for Apology,” which asks for an apology from Shanna Francis. Mr. Burton claims Ms. Francis violated public trust for an article she reprinted from the StandardExaminer. I would like to say, “WHAT NERVE!” After the Wolf Creek Park “give away,” I would think twice about accusing anyone else of violating public trust. I simply can not see how selling off that beautiful public land for virtually nothing to Rulon Jones, was in any way beneficial to the public. Not to mention the sneaky, underhanded, illegal way in which the sale took place. I think that you in particular, Mr. Burton, as an Ogden Valley resident and a Weber County Commissioner, should offer YOUR apology for YOUR gross violation of public trust. Shame on YOU! Marty Porter Eden Huntsville Resident in Favor of Cantanzaro Project I am writing regarding the southwest corner of Snowbasin Road and Highway 39 in Ogden Valley. Ron and Lisa Catanzaro won this property and it has already been approved for 400+ houses. I think that in order to make an informed decision people should find out a little more about it. This property has been a commercial node for over 40 years. Ron Catanzaro bought it 21 years ago. At present the site is approved for a 400+ dwelling units. The rezoning would make it possible to provide professional services (i.e. doctor, dentist) and some general commercial services (i.e. grocery store nestled in the back, art shop, quaint stores). If you haven’t seen the drawing of what they are proposing you really should. They have created a very classy building with parking in the back; heavy landscaping that blends with the area and complies with the dark sky ordinance. Ron and Lisa have made a huge effort to be a positive addition to the Valley. They genuinely care about the Valley and are not trying to change the quaintness of it in any way. There have been many unfair and inaccurate statements made regarding this site. I feel it is in the best interest of everyone to find out a little more about this project before opposing it. This is a beautiful commercial site. There will be some additions to the Valley; it is inevitable. Our choice really lies in how it is done. The Catanzaros plan is very tasteful and blends well with the Valley. They genuinely want to offer something the Valley really could use. Lisa Hecht Huntsville Land Owners Urge Community to Support Proposed Development We are requesting that the Southwest corner of Snowbasin Road, which I have owned for 21 years since I first moved to Ogden Valley, be rezoned commercial by the Weber County Commission in early March 2000. This commercial rezoning was approved by the East Huntsville Township Planning Commission by a vote of 5 to 1. It was recommended by the Weber County Planning Staff for commercial rezoning approval and has been designated as a Commercial Node in the Ogden Valley Master plan for over 40 years. This commercial corner was never intended to be a “shopping mall.” The primary use intended for this commercial area is to provide professional services to the residents of our Ski Lake Development which is currently approved for approximately 400 housing units. This commercial corner can best be described as a professional village with some associated general commercial uses. Planned services are medical, dental, real estate, legal, insurance, accounting, land title, banking, etc., which will be needed by those living in our development. Thus they will be avoiding the necessity of traveling elsewhere through Ogden Canyon or Local Resident Says Thank You It’s early a.m. and a cold, gloomy day is predicted. May we take a few moments to say “thank you” for some of your recent issues! They were great! We cut out some of the articles to send to family members who live far away, but are very interested in “our Valley.” We particularly enjoyed the August 1999 issue. We too were very unhappy and shocked about the library being vandalized! It is a beautiful part of our community and we waited so long for a library. another road to obtain these services. It is not designed to be a destination business location for people outside the Ogden Valley. Some more restaurants on this side of the Valley in this location would be appropriate and are an intended use. This project is also beautifully designed featuring timeless mountain architecture, a maximum of three stories in height, with heavy landscaping between the buildings and the street, and parking that is nestled behind the buildings away from the street. Close attention will be paid to the “Dark Sky” lighting ordinance for Ogden Valley. Our approval by the Commission will be conditioned upon building structures as they are presented in the rendering of our commercial rezoning request. We wanted to inform our neighbors as to the accurate concept of this proposed commercial area so that it can be judged on its own merits and not by false rumors designed to scare people into opposing it when they don’t know what is actually intended. Thank you. Ron & Lisa Cantanzaro Huntsville In the same issue was an article by Mrs. Doug (Erma) Wilson about the early days drowning by the Hermitage. She is so very interested in history, and especially the Valley history department. We just had to write and tell you to keep up the good work. My husband is a “native” of Huntsville. He’s been here since birth, but I am just a transplant. Thanks again, Mrs. Bryant P. (Norma) McKay Huntsville |
