Show Page 14 The OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume II, Issue VI March 2000 Announcements Weddings Olsen-McLean Amie Olsen and Clint McLean were married Friday January 28, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The bride is the daughter of Dwight and Becky Olsen of North Ogden. The parents of the bridegroom are Alene McLean of Ogden, and Robert and Vonda McLean of Eden. A reception and dance were held in their honor at the Ogden Union Station. The bride is a graduate of Weber High School and Stacey’s Cosmetology School. She is employed at Heads Together in North Ogden. The bridegroom is a graduate of Weber High School and attends Utah Valley State College. He served in the Ohio Columbus LDS Mission. The couple will reside in Orem following their honeymoon. Obituaries Giles-Francis Carolyn Cobabe Lowther Ray Garth “Pete” Thompson Adrianne Elizabeth Giles and Shane Aaron Francis were united in marriage on Friday, March 10, in the Ogden LDS Temple. The bride is the daughter of Allen and Jerilyn Giles of North Ogden. The parents of the bridegroom are Larry and Shanna Francis of Eden. A reception was held at the Hearthside Reception Center in Eden. The bride is a graduate of Weber High School and is employed by Weber Credit Union. The bridegroom is also a graduate of Weber High School and is employed by JFT Construction. He served in the California Ventura Mission. The couple will reside in North Ogden after a honeymoon in Florida. EDEN-Carolyn Cobabe Lowther of Eden, Utah died Tuesday, February 1, 2000 while vacationing in Palm Springs, California. She was born April 15, 1940 in Ogden, Utah to Dr. Alvin F. and June H. Cobabe. She attended Weber County Schools until she married W. Val Lowther on February 28, 1957. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. From this marriage came three children; LaVar, Lyndon and Yvonne. Carolyn was a military wife for many years making homes in Ft. Benning, GA, Ft. Bragg, NC, Ft. Monmath, NJ, Ft. Huachuca, AZ and Ft. Ord, CA. She returned to Ogden and obtained her Bachelors Degree in Marketing with a minor in Interior Design from Weber State College. While in school she worked at McKay-Dee Hospital. She became the director of Marketing at Powder Mountain in 1986. Carolyn was above all things an artist, a decorator, a gardener and a wonderful friend. Those that knew her have benefited from her talents and will miss her greatly. She is preceded in death by Val Lowther and Yvonne Lowther. She is survived by her parents; three sisters, Mr. & Mrs. Wayne (Gayla) Folkman; Mr. & Mrs. Clair (Shawna) Van Meeteren; and Mr. & Mrs. Marc (Aleta) Paulsen; two sons, LaVar (Susan) Lowther; and Lyndon (Karen) Lowther; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Entombment, Leavitt’s Aultorest Memorial Mausoleum. SOUTH OGDEN-Ray Garth “Pete” Thompson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died Sunday, February 13, 2000 at his home. He was born September 22, 1925, in Ogden, a son of Raymond B. and Caroline Margaret Graham Thompson. He lived in the Ogden Valley in Eden, for most of his life. He attended Ogden Valley schools and Weber High School where he graduated in May of 1943. In 1945, Pete enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served three years until 1948. In 1949, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and in 1950 he was discharged from the Army as a 1st PFC 2nd Sergeant. On November 11, 1951, Pete married Ethel Sharp Hunter in Elko, Nevada. Ethel died June 17, 1993. He was a member of the Ogden 49th LDS Ward. Pete worked at Swift and Company for 20 years, retiring in 1972. Pete loved to fish and hunt in the Ogden Valley. He loved horses and use to rodeo. Pete owned a cutter and chariot racing team at one time and he also raced horses. He was a Junior Posse Leader. Pete helped Ethel with the gardening and when they had extra vegetables, they both would give them to their neighbors and friends. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Lilli Deon and Rick L. Ringel Sr., of South Ogden; eight grandchildren, ShaRae J., Ricky L. Jr., Christian D., Ray J., Michael C., Patsy A., Cody A., and Joseph B. Also surviving is one brother, Wendel G. Thompson, Napa, California. Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel, his sister Nana T. Folkman, and one brother, Evan Ross Thompson. Internment, Eden Mountain View Cemetery. Manning-Sevy Amber Manning and Brian David Sevy were united in marriage on Saturday, February 12, at the Wellington House Reception Center in Ogden. The bride is the daughter of Mark and Marilyn Daley of Liberty, and David B. Manning of North Ogden. The bridegroom is the son of Kenneth B. and Janeane M. Sevy of North Ogden. Maid of honor was Jaye Eimers. Bridesmaids were Randilynn Manning and Lauren Eimers. Best man was Bradley J. Sevy. Groomsmen were Joshua Olsen and Kaine Martin. Flower girl was Rily Ann Manning; ring bearers were Devin Manning and Noah Pincombe. She is a graduate of Weber High School and works at Grounds for Coffee in Ogden. He is a graduate of Weber High School and serves in the Air Force, stationed at Hill Air Force Base. After a honeymoon to Orlando, Florida, they will be stationed at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. Isaacson-Clark United in marriage Friday, February 18, were Katrina Isaacson, daughter of Jerry and Kaarina Isaacson of Kaysville, and Joshua Clark. Parents of the bridegroom are Jeffrey and Carolynn Allen of Whittier, Alaska, and Gary and Shanna Clark of Liberty. The ceremonies were performed in the Logan LDS Temple. A luncheon followed at the Coppermill Restaurant in Logan. A reception was held that evening in the Kaysville Municipal Center. After a wedding trip to Virginia, the couple will live in Liberty. The bride graduated from Davis High School and attends Weber State University. The bridegroom is a graduate of Layton High School and also attends Weber State University. He served in the Brazil Porto Alegre South LDS Mission. Mr. and Mrs. Shane Francis Missionaries Elder Tyler Price, son of Jay and Lorie Price of Liberty, has been called to serve in the Texas McAllen Mission. His farewell address was held February 27, at the Liberty 3rd Ward. Returning Missionaries Sister LeNisha Rich, daughter of Stephen and Helen Rich of Eden, returned from serving in the New Zealand Auckland Mission. Her homecoming address was held February 13, at the Liberty 2nd Ward. Elder Toby Kenneth Wright, son of Kenny and Debbie Wright of Nordic Valley, returned from serving in the Missouri Independence Mission. His homecoming was held February 13, at the Liberty 2nd Ward. James Taylor Lewis Jr. EDEN-James Taylor Lewis Jr., 59, born May 8, 1940 in Falkland, North Carolina, the son of James T. Sr. and Ruth Bradley Lewis, died Wednesday, February 9, 2000 in Ogden, following a brief illness. James grew up in southern California and was a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara. His entire career was devoted to telecommunications and he traveled extensively as an international consultant. He leaves behind his wife, Judith Mary; his sons, James Taylor (Janine) Lewis III and John Lloyd (Melissa) Lewis; five grandchildren and two sisters, Barbara Sanders, Phoenix, Arizona; Bess Primbs, Santa Barbara, California. Internment, Fairhaven Memorial Park. Eagle Scouts Taylor Hansen, a Snowcrest 8th grader, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. With the help of his Scout Troop #15 of Eden, he completed his Eagle project building nesting houses for Kestrel Falcons, which will be placed throughout Utah by the Fish and Game. A special thanks to all of Taylor’s Scout leaders. Rory Wallwork, 16 of Scout Troop 428, Middlton LDS Ward has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Rory is the son of Nancy and Dan Wallwork of Huntsville. He is a junior at Weber High School. Taylor Hansen Births William and Kathleen Dowell of Eden had a baby girl on February 4.
