May 28--June 1: The registration & stamping process for Eccles Art Center’s “Driving the Spike” plein air competition, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except June 1–9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Participating artists provide their own surfaces which must be stamped at the Eccles Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Avenue, Ogden before beginning the work. Stamping serves as a contest verification for when the surface is returned. Maximum surface size is 24” x 36”. This is a themed plein air competition. It’s hard to believe there was a time when humans had to rely on themselves to obtain food, water, shelter, & everything else necessary in our lives. This program will focus around the book Island of the Blue Dolphins, by Scott O’Dell, a story that tells of a girl left alone to survive on an island by herself. Beyond reading, we’ll also learn about various writing devices & even work on some of our own survival skills.
