PARKING cont. from page 1 all along 7100 East and the Sheriff’s Office will be strictly enforcing parking regulations. Over this past weekend, 20 citations and 14 verbal warnings were issued to violators. Enforcement efforts will continue throughout the summertime. In Huntsville, there is an ordinance that prevents parking in specific areas of the town. These sites are clearly marked with signs, and the ordinance will be enforced by deputies and a new code enforcement officer. There is a $50 fine associated for any violation. Owners also run the risk of having their vehicle towed. The Sheriff’s Office asks the public to please be respectful of local laws governing these areas. This includes not only the parking regulations, but also the littering statute, and the ordinances that ban alcohol and glass containers on many of the beaches. Ogden Valley offers a wide-range of fun and exciting recreational activities. Let’s all do our part to help keep it safe and beautiful for everyone to enjoy! Inspirational Thought “Let me give you three rules for managing the debts of gratitude you have accumulated in your life. First, wherever you may labor in life, give more than you take. Second, whoever is around you in life, find someone to help. And, third, ask God to multiply the power of your efforts to give and to help.” --- Henry B. Eyring Tristen Kelson achieved first place for microbiology at the Richey Science and Engineering Fair held at Weber State University, March 18. She also competed at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) held in Arizona May 8 thru May 13. While in Arizona, she shared her ideas with students and judges from around the world, who also attended ISEF. Tristen, age 15, is a sophomore at Ogden High School, taking advantage of the world-renowned IBO program. Tristen has set her goals on attending medical school and becoming a physician, so she focused her science project around areas she wanted to explore. “I realized the problems associated with antibiotic resistance, so I focused my project on antimicrobial research.” Tristen is the daughter of Ross and Patricia Kelson of Eden. Pat says, “I am incredibly proud of Tristen’s academic and personal accomplishments; she is accomplishing the goals she set for herself beginning in kindergarten!” Tristen will include in her summer activi- ties, spending time with her friends, travel, basketball, swimming, and spending time with both of her dogs! Along with winning first place for microbiology, Tristen received the Naval Science Award, and was an ISEF finalist in the Reggie Foundation. She also received a partial scholarship from Weber State University, a $20,000 scholarship from Westminster, and an all-expenses paid trip to the International Science Education Fair convention in Arizona. Tristen’s parents added, “A sincere ‘thank you’ to the teachers here in the valley, ‘Miss Pat,’ Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Stocker, Mrs. Facer and Mrs. Frost, for all of your exceptional teaching and guidance!” Other Valley participants at ISEF this year were Liz Dowell, who was presented with a special award at ISEF; and Dr. John Mull, professor at WSU and director of Richey Science Fair. |
