Full details at <www.ogdennaturecenter.org> Huntsville Town will celebrate July 4th with their traditional flag raising, parade, and patriotic program. This year’s theme is “America, The Beautiful.” Participants are invited to create floats that reflect the beauty of our country and its many landscapes. Prizes will be awarded to those who best exemplify the theme. The Grand Prize will be $100. Prizes will also be given for the “Most Patriotic” and “Most Creative.” In the past, we have allowed entries in the parade without filling out an application. This year an application is required and must be submitted by June 13, 2016. The only exception is for children twelve and under who are walking or riding their bikes. Those who wish to apply to be in the parade can find more information on the town’s website: <huntsvilletown.com> June Fun @ the Ogden Valley Branch Library Art Space Open House Planned for June 18 Weber County Library 2016 Children’s Summer Reading Program - Doodlebugs Registration starts May 31. This program runs June 6 thru August 27, for ages 0-12. Read to win prizes, come to exciting events, and have fun with us this summer. Summertime reading means better grades. Studies show that 7 out of 10 children maintain and improve reading and writing skills by participating in a summer reading program. For more information, please call the library at 801-337-2660. Teen Comic Drawings - Enter during June & July. Calling all teens. If you’re into creating graphic novels, video characters, or drawing in general, show off your work this summer at the library. Enter within any of the three categories listed below as many times as you want. All of the artwork will be put on display at the library from July 30 until September 1. There will be prizes for all who participate. Entry Types: • Comic panels. Draw at least a four panel comic strip. • Graphic novel. Draw one to two pages of your story. • Video game character. Design in detail a super hero for a video or computer game. What’s the Word? June 6 - July 31 Aspiring writers aged 12-18, submit your work throughout the summer to win prizes. One winner from each of the following categories will be chosen each week in June and July: Poetry, Fanfiction, Original Fiction, Memoir (What I Did on My Summer Vacation), Nonfiction (research). A story hour for ages 0-5 will be offered simultaneously with the activity at 10:30. Summer Sizzle Concert Series: Ili O’ Polynesia - Thursday, June 23 @ 7:00 p.m. Ili O’ Polynesia is Northern Utah’s pre- mier Polynesian dance studio and troupe who have been performing beautiful traditional Polynesian dance for more than 12 years. They feature authentic dances from many of the islands, including Hawaii, New Zealand, Fiji, Tahiti, and Samoa. Highly skilled and energetic, these dancers will make you feel like you’re sitting on a beach on an island far away! Code Club Level 1 - June 27 to June 30, 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. each day. Children in grades 3-6 are invited to learn the basics of coding and create their own electronic game, story, or artwork. This is a series class; please plan on attending all four days. Senior Lunch Program – Wednesdays @ 12:00 p.m. Senior lunches are served in the Community Room. There is a suggested donation of $3 for seniors, and $6 charge for patrons 59 and younger! Zumba @ Your Library – Saturdays @ 10:00 a.m. Zumba provides an exhilarating, easy-to-follow, Latin dance fitness program designed to get you in shape while having fun! This dynamic class is taught by a certified Zumba instructor. Yoga – Mondays @ 6:30 p.m. Our certified instructor will provide an invigorating workout and help improve mental wellness. The open house will have live music, a silent auction of works by artists in the gallery, face painting, plein air art, and other working artist activities. Stop by and visit the Art Space. T-Shirts dyed with dyers woad will also be on sale! Located in one of the cabins in the Eden Center (across from the post office), the usual hours of Art Space are Thursday thru Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. When you visit the Art Space, you will see the work of ten local artists. The work is varied and includes photography, oil paintings, metal art, jewelry, and pottery. Come visit the Art Space, and enjoy the open house! Mountain Arts and Music want to congratulate Marie Cassas who was awarded honorable mention for her photography at the Bountiful Davis statewide art competition. There were 500 entries, with only three winners and seven honorable mention awards. Come see Marie’s work in the Art Space! We also congratulate Trish Painter, who won first place for her pen/ink drawing of Sydney and the Bug in the amateur division of the Brigham City Art-Tell contest held in April. For more information visit <mountainartsandmusic.com> Eccles Community Art Center Offers Western-themed Exhibit In conjunction David Dibble, Shawn Didyoung, Kelly D. with Ogden Pioneer Days, The Eccles Community Art Center’s Main Gallery will exhibit works from Western-themed artists in an exhibit called “The Ogden Pioneer Days—Traces of the West.” This invitational exhibit will open Friday, July 1 and continue through Friday, July 30, 2016. A reception for artists and the public will be held July 1 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Awards will be posted at the reception. “The Ogden Pioneer Days—Traces of the West” is comprised of recent works with a Western theme by artist throughout the United States. Categories include Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, and Highend Western Gear. Local artists, as well as those from Wyoming, Arizona, Montana and Oklahoma, are participating. Artists who have accepted the invitation to exhibit include Dianne Adams, Doug Adams, Doug Braithwaite, Keith A. Dagley, Christy Daniels, Donovan, Barbara Summers Edwards, Glen Edwards, Jeff Edwards, Mike Gardner, Mark Goodson, Tim Harmon, Cordell Hatch (Hatch Tack), David W. Ogden Pioneer Days events will be happening at the Utah Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and at Ogden’s Union Station. On July 8, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. the Utah Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum will hold their Annual Utah Cowboy Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Ogden’s Union Station will be exhibiting westernthemed paintings by local artists during July. The Eccles Community Art Center’s regular gallery hours are Monday thru Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The center is closed Sundays and major holidays, including July 4 (Independence Day) and July 24 (Pioneer Day).
