Show Volume XIX Issue VI The Ogden Valley news Page 9 June 15, 2011 Eden—An Amateur Dramatic Company Started and in Full Blast Historical Photos Note: The following article ran in the “Ogden Junction” (Today’s “Standard-Examiner”) on Wednesday, February 11, 1880. Yesterday we received a pleasant visit from an old-time friend and associate, James A. Thompson, Esq. of Eden, who gives to understand that the general health of that locality is good, though the weather is exceedingly cold. Mr. Thompson has organized an amateur dramatic company at this place, which sails under the title of the Eden Dramatic Association. Mr. T., who has had a great experience in theatricals for many years in this Territory, and under whose able management the new company is bound to flourish, expresses himself delighted with the exhibition of talent already displayed by the members of the young association. On Saturday evening last they gave their initial performance, on which occasion was presented the comedietta of “Turning the Tables,” and the laughable farce of “Smashington Goit.” The members, Mr. Thaddeus Ferrin, Mr. Stuart Eccles, Mr. Henry Fuller, Mr. Walter J. Lindsay, Mr. Wm. Ingalls, Mrs. Mary Stalling, Miss Kate Pritchett and Miss Neilson, acquitted themselves in a credible manner for new beginners. The same bill was repeated on Monday evening, coinciding with a dance, which was well attended by the Huntsville people. We understand that on Friday evening next the company intends giving another performance for the benefit of the Sunday School, when will be presented the laughable farce of “Domestic Economy,” and the drama of “All’s Well That Ends Well.” Valley 4th-grade students who later became the first graduating 9th grade class at the new Huntsville school in 1958, as shown below, etc. Fourth-grade students are in front of the old purple Huntsville school that was later torn down so the new Valley school could be built in its place.
