Yet with all this true grit, his most important treasure in life was his wife Michelle, the real meaning for his joy. His children and grandchildren also left this great man’s heart full of pride. His love for his family was greater than his love of the mountain so they became his legacy. He wrapped his arms around us all and left the warmth and protection stamped across our chests. Randy was a generous, gentle, and courageous man who led a life fueled by the thrill of the hunt and love for his family and friends. He touched and grabbed every heart he ever met. He was known for telling corny jokes and the following is one of his favorites: “You can pick your nose and you can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your friend’s nose.” Randy enjoyed competitive sports and owned the Anchorage Cowboys, an amateur flag football team that won three city championships under his leadership. Every team “Doc” supported became part of him and he loved each and everyone who played for him. He became an integral part in the growth of adult football in Anchorage and helped establish the Alaska Football League, which is dedicated to give adults at risk an opportunity to play football. The AFL will name an award and scholarship in the name of this great football ambassador. When you think about the man in the mountain your tears are of joy and laughter with personal tears of the void in your life. This void is short-lived for us all, for we look to the mountain as we do to the man in the moon and the man in the mountain appears to us all. We honor your legacy and give thanks to your being, “The man in the mountain.” Randy is survived by his wife, Michelle; his children, Nathan, RandiLee, Kaelyn, Cory, and Taylor; his grandchildren, Madison, Monroe, Landen, and Brenna; and his brothers, Richard, Ronald and Barry. God looked around His garden And He found an empty place. And then He looked down upon the earth, And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you, And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain, He knew that you would never Get well on earth again.
