Five Minute Inspiration By Gabbi Chieppa, Snowcrest Junior High Student It was Saturday morning, and we had gone to run some errands. On the way home, my mom wanted to drop off some old clothes, blankets, and other items to St. Anne’s Shelter and the Salvation Army. Earlier that day, I had been complaining on the size of our home and how I disliked my room. As we pulled into St. Anne’s, we saw a little boy running around with a big smile on his face because he had just gotten a cookie. And my mom said,” Look at that little boy; he has nowhere to go, and hardly any food to eat. I bet all the people in this parking lot would kill to live in our house and have your room! And yet you’re complaining?” I never imagined that people lived like that. That little boy was so happy because he had gotten one small cookie, but when we get cookies, we always just ask for more. There were homeless people everywhere I looked, who basically lived out of their back- packs. My mom got out of the car to drop off the clothes, but it was closed. So then we drove to the Salvation Army. When we got there, my mom pulled into the “drop off” zone and a friendly man walked out and proceeded to unload the trunk. As he did, he began to talk with my mom. When she got back into the car, she said that he lived at St. Anne’s Shelter. That’s when I had my “five minute inspiration.” “Mom, I feel bad for them. I want to help them in some way, something bigger than just donating our clothes.” That’s when I decided to get the community involved. There will be three boxes at Valley Market from April 26 to May 11. One box will be for gently used clothing, and the other two will be for gently used toys and non-perishable food items. We will be taking these donations to St. Anne’s Shelter on Friday May 13. This experience inspired me, and I hope it inspires you too! PLEASE JOIN ME IN HELPING THOSE IN NEED! Well-Known Author and Researcher to Speak in Eden on April 29 Author and DNA researcher Rod Meldrum, who has been studying archaeological and other evidence of the Book of Mormon in North America, is offering a lecture on the DNA Evidences of the Book Mormon on Friday, April 29 at the Red Moose Lodge in Eden. The twohour lecture will run from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The lecture is free, and open to the general public. Meldrum has also published a DVD on his research. He began his study of issues surrounding the controversy over DNA and the Book of Mormon in 2003, which led to questioning the origins of proposed geographical settings of the Book of Mormon. In addition, he completed an intensive study of the Book of Mormon itself and the historical background and documents associated with it. In 2007 he began sharing his research. When interest in his research reached a point that it was no longer possible to accommodate all those who wanted to learn more and combined with the tremendous amount of information to share, he created the DVD titled “DNA Evidence for Book of Mormon Geography.” Meldrum has since given presentations across the United States. His original four-hour DVD has now been seen by many tens of thousands with overwhelmingly positive reviews. Recently, an entire- ly new five-disk DVD series was released, which is the most comprehensive work ever assembled on the subject of Book of Mormon geography in North America. With over nine hours of information, fourteen interviews with such noted icons as Elder Hartman Rector Jr (Emeritus General Authority), and Kieth Merrill (Award Winning Film Maker, including The Testaments and Legacy), together with hours of on-location high-definition video footage and stunning graphics, this new DVD series, titled Book of Mormon Evidence, has become the new standard in Book of Mormon geography research. The need for scholarly information relating to DNA or genetics and the Book of Mormon was expressed by thousands who have encountered anti-Mormon claims that have been made that DNA proves the Book of Mormon “false.” Addressing this need, the new book Rediscovering the Book of Mormon Remnant through DNA demonstrates through scholarly scientific journals that the latest genetics research not only doesn’t refute the Book of Mormon, it may actually validate its historical efficacy. High Water Impacts Forest Roads and Facilities High water and flooding are impacting recreation facilities in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Pioneer and Shenoah campgrounds located in Blacksmith Fork Canyon on the Logan Ranger District have been affected by flood waters and are closed for public health and safety. Ward Canyon Road, (Forest Raod #80177) located in Davis County east of Bountiful is closed until further notice. The closure is due to unstable soil conditions that have damaged a portion of the Ward Canyon Road. The closure begins at the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest boundary and goes east to the junction with Skyline Drive (Forest Road #80008). Forest Service officials advise recreationists that other areas may be closed, or delayed in opening for the season due to flooding or high water. Recreationists should be alert to surrounding conditions and exercise caution when recreating in favorite areas. Visitors should use extreme caution where water is flowing across roads and around fast moving streams or rivers. Flooding water resulting from snow melt in mountain streams is extremely cold. Flooding streams and rivers carry hidden debris such as logs and rocks, and are filled with heavy silt, creating hazardous conditions.
