Show The Ogden Valley news Page Volume XV Issue XV July 15, 2008 Announcements Births Aspen Eve Torman Missionaries Hunter & Ridge Torman are happy to announce the birth of their sister Aspen Eve Torman. She was born May 1, 2008 weighing 8 lbs, 5 oz; and was 21 inches. Mom and Dad are Justin and Chase Young Jori of Eden. Birthdays Charles Grow Elder Chase Potter Young, son of Dennis and Corby Young of Eden, has been called to serve in the Finland Helsinki Mission. He entered the MTC on July 9, 2008. Young Womanhood Awards Kassie McGonegal, daughter of Scott and Lisa McGonegal of Eden, has received her Young Womanhood Recognition Award, through the Young Womens program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for completing goals for personal growth, and church and community service. Kassie will be a senior at Weber High School this fall. She loves exercise and is a runner. During her junior year at Weber, Kassie was on the track team and qualified for the State Track Meet. In addition to running, Kassie loves snow skiing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and soccer. Kassie much prefers summer over winter though, and is looking at colleges that are near the sandy beaches of California. Congratulations Kassie! Kassie McGonegal Kirsten Genevieve Bastow, daughter of Steve and Karen Bastow of Liberty, has received her Young Womanhood Recognition Award, which is given to young women who, through the Young Women program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, complete goals for personal growth, and church and community service. Kirsten is a member of the Liberty First LDS Ward. She recently graduated from Weber High School, and plans on attending the ATC this fall. Kirsten loves nature and being in the outdoors. Charles Dale Grow of Ogden celebrated his 90th birthday Saturday, July 5. Friends and family attended an open house in his honor at the Eccles Park LDS Ward in Ogden. He was born July 2, 1918 to Adella and Charles Issac Grow in Charles Grow Huntsville. He graduated from Weber High School and the University of Utah. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he married Larene Taylor on July 9, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. He taught elementary school in Weber County schools and also did carpentry work. He was made a patriarch in 1978 and served in many church callings. He was also a temple ordinance worker in the Ogden and Bountiful LDS temples. He has nine children, 33 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Obituaries Robert P. Evans Robert P. Evans, beloved husband, devoted father, loving grandfather, and great friend to many, peacefully passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008 surrounded by his wife and children. He was Robert Evans a devoted Catholic and active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Bob was born on a farm in Randall, Minnesota on January 19, 1927. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota in 1951. While in college he met his lovely wife Mary. They were married June 13, 1953. They were members of their college choir and sang together throughout their married life. Bob began his career with Pillsbury Company in 1953 and moved to Ogden in 1958. In 1964 he founded Evans Grain. Bob was a successful businessman who was generous to his family, friends, employees, church, and community. He served on the boards of many organizations and foundations including St. Benedict’s Hospital Advisory Board, St. Joseph’s Schools and Boosters, Utah/Idaho Grain Exchange, Advisory Board of the Federal Reserve, First Security Bank, and Salt Lake Catholic Diocese. He was a member of the Ogden Golf & Country Club and the Boulders Golf Club, Carefree, Arizona. Filled with energy, he was an avid skier, golfer, and tennis player and spent many days fishing on Lake Powell and the lakes of Minnesota. He loved hunting at the Canada Goose & Duck Club and his Snake River farm in Idaho. His zest for life was infectious and brought untold enjoyment to many. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and children Meg (Steve) Chambers, Ogden, UT; Joan (Nicholas) Ahlf, Huntsville, UT; Susan Evans, San Diego, CA; John (Kelli) Evans, Burley, ID; Patty (Bradley) Todd, Sandy, UT; Nancy (Joe) Evans-Hazel, Flagstaff, AZ; Barbara (Jeff) Wogoman, Jackson, WY; and 19 grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Lawrence Evans, FL; and two sisters, Eleanor Thorson and Mary Ann Justin, both of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ann Evans; brother Joe; and granddaughter Rose. Nothing gave him more pride and enjoyment than spending time with his large family. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, June 30 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 514 – 24th Street. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic High School, 1790 Lake Street, Ogden, Utah 84401.
