Announcements Sought Letters to the Editor Powder Mountain Threat to Incorporate Is Laced With Problems No decision was made by the Weber County Commissioners at the July 8 meeting held in Ogden. Powder Mountain presented their new proposals that included an increase of 1,800 acres to add to the original rezone request. In addition, they demanded an increase in units (dwellings) from 2,800 to 3,950 (not including the 900+ units slated for the Cache County side of the resort). It should be noted that Powder Mountain has never resolved the issue of the second permanent access road and said last night they would “address that issue when they felt it was necessary.” It appears that Powder Mountain will be calling the shots on public safety and traffic. The purpose of this is clear—Powder Mountain is playing a shell game with the density numbers by adding more acreage If you would like your submitted items returned, please send a stamped, selfaddressed envelope. The deadline for the OVN August 1 issue is July 15. Larry & Sharon Zini, Huntsville very emotional yet successful day. In November of 2007, Monica was diagnosed with a form of cancer known as Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. After many medical complications and hospitalizations, the family came to realize that Monica’s only hope for a cure was a bone marrow transplant. However, a transplant is very expensive; even with medical insurance there are significant non-reimbursable costs. So to help offset these uninsured costs, friends and family started fundraising campaigns through the National Transplant Assistance Fund. NTAF is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for over 20 years. After 5 weeks and 1 day of being confined to a hospital room as a means of protecting her health, Monica was released from the hospital on July 4, 2008. Her June 7, 2008 we had our first fundraiser—a car wash at The Valley Market—despite the weather. On this same day, Monica underwent her bone marrow transplant. It was a body is coping with the transplant very well. Though she has been released from the hospital, she will still have to stay in Salt Lake for 100 days to insure that her body is reacting well to the transplant. Monica states that she is very excited about being released and breathing fresh air again; she still misses her home in Liberty, her flowers, the golf course, friends, and family. She is always asking how the Valley is doing and she is very thankful for the community she lives in. She is taking one day at a time and is very grateful for everything and everyone, and all of the support and love she has received. Thank you again on behalf of Monica Fuit, and her family and friends. Nicole Householder, Nordic Valley What is a Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant? When a person’s blood stem cells become diseased or cancerous, it is a life-threatening situation. Often the best hope for a cure is a blood stem cell transplant that replaces the patient’s diseased cells with healthy new cells. These cells must match the patient’s own cells as closely as possible for this procedure to be successful. After the patient undergoes chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment to destroy the diseased cells, the healthy donor blood stem cells are injected directly into the patient’s bloodstream. In a successful transplant the stem cells travel to the marrow where they begin to function and multiply just like they were the patient’s own. We will continue actively fundraising for the Fuits in Ogden Valley and the surrounding areas of Ogden for as long as the family needs our help. If you have questions regarding these efforts, or would like to help, please contact Nicole Householder at 745-1122. If you have questions regarding NTAF, questions regarding how to become a donor, or would like to make a contribution to Monica’s fund, please contact NTAF at 800-642-8399 or <www.transplantfund.org> Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by the law. This campaign is administered by the national transplant assistance fund, a 501c (3) nonprofit providing fundraising assistance to transplant and catastrophic injury patient’s. A Federal court case could tie up the process for years and during that time, Powder Mountain can sit on its assets. It will also be pertinent to bring into any lawsuit the conflict of interest issue involving a still sitting member of the Ogden Valley Planning Commission. Such action will expose the failure of both the Ogden Valley Planning Commission leadership and the Weber County Commission to take definitive punitive action regarding the conflict of interest facts after an obvious betrayal of public trust by an appointed commission member. Fuit Family and Friends Thank Community As a community service, The Ogden V alley n ews will print local birth, wedding, obituary, anniversary and missionary farewell & homecoming and Eagle Scout announcements free of charge. We invite residents to send their announcements to: The Ogden Valley news PO BOX 130 EDEN UT 84310 and at the same time demanding an increase to 3,950 units (a 41% increase in dwellings)! The additional acreage dilutes the technical density calculation, but does NOTHING to address the serious road safety issues or real time density (dwelling) numbers that will increase for Ogden Valley. You have to admire the chutzpah of the Powder Mountain people. They are trying to hold a gun to the head of the Weber County Commission and Weber County citizens by threatening to go forward with the incorporation petition if they don’t get everything they want, including the additional units beyond what they asked for originally. We in the Valley have news for Powder Mountain and Weber County; bring on the incorporation! It is very likely that a Federal Court will see things differently Weight Room One-On-One HAF offers one-on-one Personal Training for individuals who prefer to work in a one-on-one setting.
