Show Page 18 The Ogden Valley news Volume XV Issue V February 15, 2008 LAND TRUST cont. from page 1 supporting the Ogden Valley Trust to ensure wildlife, ridgelines, scenic corridors, stream corridors, critical wildlife habitat, watersheds, and wetlands, etc. will be protected and preserved in perpetuity. Developers and individual landowners have the ability to benefit from potentially large tax breaks through the adoption of conservation easements, making easements a win-win option for everyone. In our community there are many property owners whose landholdings have large development potential. While landowners have the absolute right to develop their land—reaping the financial benefits from doing so—The Valley Land Trust can offer a compromise between rampant, unintelligent development on the one hand, and sustainable and intelligent growth on the other. Our community is changing every day, and although everyone may not agree with all of these changes, minimizing the effects of change through rational design will help conserve integral parts of our surroundings. If you are interested in learning more about conservation easements and their benefits, and how conservation easements can work in tandem with development, or if you would like to become involved in working with The Ogden Valley Land Trust, contact Executive Director Carla Wiese at cjwiese@yahoo.com, Left to right: Bronson Bailey, Elise Hillstrom, Nicolaus Bennett, Gabriella Mortarotti, and Holden Schenck. KIWANIS cont. from page 1 Club. We currently have 30 members, and meet the first and third Tuesday of each month at the North View Senior Citizen Center in North Ogden.” Valley Elementary School will be receiv- ing an additional $1,000 later this month from the Kiwanis Club. The students, teachers, and staff at Valley Elementary wish to send out a big thank you to the North Ogden Kiwanis Club for their generous contribution. Kindergarten Round Up Ogden Valley Land Trust offers services that can help guide landowners during the development process, or prior to an outright land sale, that can also be financially beneficial. There are a wide variety of options property owners may select that will aid them in securing a substantial profit while also protecting open space and the conservation value of their property. Having alternatives can empower property owners who may have an interest in how their property is developed and the impact this development may have on the community and future generations. While preservation of large tracts of land is ideal, it may not always be a viable option. A conservation easement with The Ogden or Board Chair Shanna Francis at slfrancis@ att.net or 745-2688. Tax deductible financial donations are also being solicited. While The Ogden Valley Land Trust focuses its attention on adopting and maintaining conservation easements within Ogden Valley and Ogden Canyon, it is licensed to accept properties and conservation easements on land throughout the entire state of Utah. Our choices today will prove to be our destiny tomorrow. It is time to make a difference; donate to The Ogden Valley Land Trust. Thank you Basinview for making a difference by protecting an integral view corridor along with pristine wildlife habitat located within beautiful Ogden Valley. Once again it is time for the Kindergarten Round Up at Valley Elementary! The annual event will be held April 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. This meeting is for parents and their children who will be 5 years old on or before September 2, 2008. If you have a child who is eligible for kindergarten this fall, and you have not received a kindergarten packet, please call the school at 452-4180, or come to the school and fill out a registration paper and pick up the packet. It is important that you receive this packet as soon as possible so there is time to meet all of the requirements such as doctors’ appointments for your child. An original birth certificate will also be required for your child before they can enroll. School administrators also need an accurate count of the number of kindergarten students who will be attending Valley this fall (2008) to ensure adequate space and resources are allotted, and an adequate number of teachers are on staff. This plan- ning process begins early in the spring, so please register your kindergarten student as soon as possible. For students who were not of kindergarten age for the 2007-2008 school year, but would like to enroll in first grade for the 2008-2009 school year, a Valley Elementary assessment for developmentally age-appropriate academic, social, and emotional skills will be administered. If your student attended an alternative kindergarten because they missed the cut-off date for public school last year, please contact the school’s office. We would like to receive a written recommendation from your child’s current teacher as to the student’s recommended grade placement. As a team, parents and Valley Elementary school staff will review this data. We want to work with parents to ensure the best placement for their child so they will be successful during their academic career. We are looking forward to serving your children at Valley Elementary “Where Children Come First.” |
