By Kirsten Bastow, Weber High Student Reporter Local High School Student Crowned Mr. Weber By Annie Bastow, Weber High Student Reporter Lewis Woolsey of Huntsville was crowned Mr. Weber on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Weber High School. Other contestants included Todd Abbot and Marques Schroeder of North Ogden; Parker Hansen of Huntsville; Josh Hogge of Eden; Drew Steel, Colby Cevering, Brad Furgeson, and Jacob Kap of Pleasant View. The Mr. Weber competition is a tradition that has been going on at Weber High School for seven years. In this “pageant,” contestants are required to do a number of tasks including a physical fitness test, a written test, creative cake decorating, and showing off their beauty skills in a hair and makeup contest. In the student assembly, there were also portions featuring talent, evening wear, and bathing suit competitions. For the talent portion of the competition, Lewis showed a DVD presentation of a sport he made up called “cross fielding.” He explained, “We have cows and when we feed them we sneak up behind them and grab their tails and they run away pulling us behind them. It’s a lot like skiing.” When asked about his unique talent, Woolsey commented, “I chose this talent because I figured it was a pretty unusual talent and nobody else would do it.” Next, Lewis had to display his muscles in the swimwear competition. Not much can be said here except that there was very loud applause from Weber High’s female population. Lastly, Lewis had to demonstrate his more glamorous side in the evening wear competition. For the event, Lewis sported a black dress shirt, black slacks, and a John Deere tractor tie. Finally, the moment came that all nine contestants had been anticipating; it was time to announce the winners. First awarded was “Mr. Congeniality,” which went to Todd Abbot. Finally announced was second attendant Colby Cevering, and then first attendant Jacob Kap. At last, Lewis’s name was announced as the 2008 Mr. Weber. Woolsey commented on his win, “I just kind of giggled inside when they called my name. I thought it was funny. I didn’t really think that I had won.” We congratulate Lewis and the other contestants on their triumph, and look forward to another awesome pageant next year.
