Letters to the Editor Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable Honors LDS President The Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable would like to offer its condolences to Mormons everywhere for the loss of President Gordon B. Hinckley. Although he was President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, people of all faiths remember him for his words and deeds around the world, which reflected his love for all people during his visionary presidency. After days of grey skies, Sunday ended with the most dazzling and transfixing sunset. It was a tribute to this amazing man as he left this earth. We wish you all peace and joy as you remember his lifelong contributions. Sincerely, Elaine C. Emmi, Chair, Salt Lake Interfaith Rountable Powder Mountain Development Will Affect All of Us The Powder Mountain ski resort development that has been in the news the past several months has been interesting, with everyone, whether for or against, vying for the best legal position. Now a new twist has reared its head: a Powder Mountain town. If that goes through, it appears Ogden Valley residents and Weber County will have no say in that massive undertaking, or about how it will affect Ogden Valley, all of Weber County, and perhaps Cache and Morgan Counties as well. With something this massive, someone ought to be thinking about water rights. Where are Pineview Water, Ogden City Water, and Weber Basin Water Conservancy District in this fray? Where are the western Weber County cities in this? Water doesn’t run uphill. Will city and individual wells dry up? Where is the sewage going? Into Pineview Reservoir? Down the Ogden River? Will Weber County residents be paying for a sewage treatment plant? How will the added traffic be handled? Just through Ogden Canyon? Over North Ogden pass? Over Trapper’s Loop? Over Monte Cristo? Through Avon? It’s not just an Ogden Valley problem. The proposal affects all of us downstream. Ernest Delgarn Smith, Roy, Utah Valley Elementary PTA Looking for Board Members The year is more than halfway through, the kids and teachers are celebrating the 100th day of school, and, believe it or not, this snow will melt away and spring will really arrive! My kids are normal (I think) and every once in awhile try to convince me they are sick because they just don’t want to get out of bed. I almost always can think of something special that is going on that day or week that they would miss out on that spurs them to get out of bed. “Don’t you have opera practice today? Need to turn in your permission slip for your ski day? Finish passing off on the computer? Library day? Dance practice? Reading party? Peer counseling? Ice skating time? Results from science experiments? Changing of jobs in class? Even a simple reminder that it is pizza day sometimes works (for the 1st grader anyway). I thank the teachers, Mr. Lee, and our wonderful staff for including out-of-the-ordinary lessons and activities that provide students variety and a reason to get out of bed. The PTA continues to lend support and sponsor activities that help create the positive atmosphere at our awesome school! It is now time for us to organize the PTA Executive Board for next year. Our board is starting to come together, but we are still in need of filling one major position—we need a President Elect. The President Elect shadows the President, helps in general areas of PTA as available, attends meetings, and acts as a member of the Executive Board. Of course, the most exciting part of being President Elect is that they will be President for the 2009–2010 school year. That will be a great year to be President as we will have a new school and much to celebrate! I am so glad that I have had the opportunity of being the PTA President. I have met and worked with so many different parents who, otherwise, I would not have known. I have enjoyed the camaraderie and felt the support of other parents who have the same goal in mind—to make a difference in their child’s education and to be there! In searching for a person inter- ested in this position, I have tried to really think about why I wanted to take on this position. My first thought was, simply, that I have always pictured myself trying to be the PTA President of my children’s school. Then I thought about why that is. I guess it is because it is something my Mom LETTERS cont. on page 17 —NOTICE — The Eden Irrigation Company Annual Stock Holders’ Meeting February 13, 008 at 7:00 p.m. at Snowcrest Jr. High |
