I heard pounding noises and went to investigate. I saw a young Caucasian male, 17 to 20 years old, with something in his hand and standing by my side garage door. He wore dark sunglasses, a dark soc! k hat with multicolored stripes, a baggy charcoal hooded sweatshirt, and black gloves. I stepped outside the door to see ifI could find out what was going on. He spoke to another person saying, “Oh, someone is here.” Then he walked around the corner to get into a car that was parked on the driveway and they took off in a small black sedan. He broke out one pane of the garage window with obvious intentions to enter our home. It saddens me to think that these young people have their whole lives ahead of them and have not been empowered to take advantage of the opportunities to do better with their lives. Develop your talents and interests, go to school, and get a job that will help you to live an honest life. Do you have such lack of regard for others and so little self-respect that you are unable to see another way? Think about developing some character by making your own way and being proud of your hard work and accomplishments. Every time you take advantage of someone for your own benefit, you are at a high risk of changing your lives in a very negative and nonproductive way. You might want to rethink your career choice. FYI... some pointers for the professional thief: When you see a car in the garage, the likelihood of someone being home is pretty good. When you cut the power off, the alarm system is backed up with a battery source. nd breaking and entering is your chosen profession, you may want to rethink your strategie A big thank you to the Weber County Sheriff” s Department. We appreciate your professionalism and dedication that allows Valley residents to live in a safe, peaceful community. Residents, please keep your eyes and ears open, and report any unusual events. We cannot be naive in thinking that these things do not happen in our Valley. Be a good neighbor and a responsible citizen as we work together to prevent these types of illegal activities. some Jeannie Wendell Tel: 745-2879 Fax: 745-2879 erwendell@att.net crwendell@msn.com Opinions expressed by advertisers, columnists or letters to the editor are not necessarily the opinions of the owners and staff of The OGDEN VALLEY NEws. Guidelines for Letters to the Editor My wife and I live in the Huntsville area. We e present at the Ogden Valley Township Planning Commission meeting on January 23, 2007. We are relatively new to the area and this was our first Planning Commission meeting. We were surprised and dismayed to see Mr. Jim Banks sitting on the Planning Commission as a voting member. We know that Mr. Banks works for several developers (including our own) in the Ogden Valley, and his presence on the Commission appears to be a clear conflict of interest. Mr. Banks can, and did, vote on several issues for the Ogden Valley that could possibly benefit his Ogden Letters should be 300 words or less. While the staff of The OGDEN VALLEY NEWS inyites une Eee an unfair advantage for those developers on rulings by the Planning Commission. This letter is not intended to impugn Mr. Banks’ integrity or honesty, but rather to point out to the Commission that such an arrangement is contrary to common sense, and leaves one with the idea that it is possible the Commission could be influenced in favor of these Ogden Valley developers on numerous contested planning issues. In addition, Sharon Holmstrom, one of the Planning Commission members at this meeting, questioned an advocate who testified on behalf of another developer. Ms. Holmstrom wanted to know why this advocate’s employer would speak in support of this zone change proposal when normally they do not testify at these meetings. It was a reasonable question that indicated Ms. Holmstrom was concerned about any unusual influence from interested sources. We would submit that she and the entire commission consider Mr. Banks’ presence on the Ogden Valley Planning Commission in the same light. We would like the Ogden Valley Planning Commission to provide a public explanation regarding the legal justification that allows for Mr. Banks, a paid employee of several developers in Ogden Valley, to vote on important planning issues that will impact his employers and all Valley residents. Coming back from the ski resort, two men saw me kneeling over the dog and stopped to help. I was so grateful for their kindness. I arrived at the North Ogden vet’s office ten a before they closed. The dog had collar. His femur bone and pelvis deep, and had road rash all over his body. The vet informed me of an immediate need to do surgery or he would die. He said the dog could easily recuperate, heal, and live a normal life—but not without the surgery. My heart sank. This procedure would cost about $2,500. I was sick inside.
