Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Email condolences to i family at <lom@lindquistmortuary.co Erma Louise Roy Granath Erma left this life to join her love, Leo, on January 28, 2007 at the age of 86 as the result ofa fall at home. She was born April 18, 1920 to Kurt and Everna Roy in Los Angeles, California. She was an only child and missed having siblings terribly. She graduated in the winter class of Belmont High School in 1937. She was briefly married to Voler Viles and they had a daughter together. On October 31, 1942 she married her lifelong love, Leo R. Granath and together they raised 6 children; Shanti (Shemara) Ross, Clinton (Terry) Granath, Kathy (Rich) Peterson, Doris (Paul) Woodbury, Chris (Linda) Granath, and Tina Granath, and a special niece Sandra (Cousin Monster) in San Bernardino, California. In 1966 the family moved to Huntsville, Utah. Leo and Erma had 19 Grandchildren: Karak, Roger (Felicia), Robert, Kathy and Anne (Alan) Kray; Erik, Justin, Galen, and Gideon Granath; Jennifer (Michael), and Tyler (Lisa) Peterson; Zachery (Trisha), and Nathan (Juliana) Woodbury; Brandie (Shane), Blue (Kari), and Amber Granath; Josh (Shambrae), Wade (Shelly), and Cassidy Verhaal. On July 1, 1993 Leo left Erma a widow. There are 18 great grandchildren to date: Mykela, Jordan, Heidi, Kyle, Karlee, Jordan, Aspen, Skyler, Bridger, Malone, Harrison, Boston, Aunika, Aiden, Gus, Riley, Lacey, and Ellie with one more on the way. Erma’s legacy is this family and her example of embracing life. She led a life of service, both to her family, her friends, and community. She volunteered at Ogden Regional Hospital and was a past president for their Ladies’ Cosmopolitan Club. She lived alone until her death, being independent and often stubborn, which were two of her best traits. She was interested in the world around her, reading books, and newspapers, as well as being an aid sports fan. She especially loved her garden, and her animals. Interment in Huntsville City Cemetery. daughter of Mary Doman Everett R. and Gay Wangsgard Doman. Mary Gay’s childhood was he in Utah, Wyoming, Virginia, and New Mexico. In 1959, she graduated from high school in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where she was a National Merit Scholar and valedictorian of her class M Gay thrived in the academic environment. She was a lifelong learner, an excellent student, and a scholar with a special aptitude for languages. After attending the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque for one year, she transferred to San Jose State College in California, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963 with a major in Spanish, and a minor in French and Anthropology. After a year of graduate study in Spain at the University of Madrid, she earned a Master of Arts degree from San Jose State in 1966. In 1976, she earned a Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics (with a Portuguese minor), from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Most of her career was spent teaching Spanish at the university level. She taught at Queens College ‘ University of New York at Albany; the University of California, Santa Barbara; and concluded her career as an Associate Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at California State University, Northridge. Gay’s interests were varied, and included reading, traveling, bird watching, wilderness horseback riding trips, archaeology, spelunking, painting, photography, word play, annually tending the Utah Shakespearian Festival and learning languages. In addition to being fluent in Spanish and French, she also studied German, Portuguese, and Italian. Her interest in languages also led to a fascination with the cultures those languages represented.
