It is believed that this city was occupied by a prophet by the name of Lehi and his family approximately 600 B.C. This site was originally discovered in 1963 in the course of road construction, and was excavated by a special archeological team under the direction of Dr. Yoram Tsafrir of Hebrew University. The site contains some of the most beautiful mosaic floors of the entire Middle East, in addition to a number of underground chapels. “This site is important to the Arabs because anciently it was believed by Arab tradition that a prophet named Lehi lived there and blessed and judged the people of both Ishmael and Isaac. The Jews believe that this is the site that has been sacred since the days of Samson, and was occupied by a family of prophets who left the area _by boat wa Christian verts retreated to worship during the days of perseDavid Peterson cution of the Christians. “Inasmuch as this site is important to these three groups, your studies will include research in Egypt, Jordan, and Israel. Your scientific mapping of the ancient city of Lehi will be of great worth to future archeological studies.” haritable funds account has been established at Zion’s Bank by Beit-Lehi Excavation.
