Show Volume X THE Issue IX OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 13 August 15, 2004 Old Fire House Snowcrest Student Body Expands Services In addition to adding yet another qualified professional, Old Fire House is changing their name to Old Fire House Learning Academy. The same services will be offered, including preschool, private kindergarten, before and after school care, and all day care. Owners Becky and Chris Daugaard state, “We want the community to know just how much we can offer your children. We feel that the name Old Fire House Child Care portrays day care only. We want people that have not used our services to know that we offer so much more. I think our new name sums that up. We are all constantly taking child development classes. Part of parent paid tuitions help pay for staff education.” Joining the staff of Old Fire House Learning Academy is Anna Siciliano. Anna grew up in Salt Lake City. he went to Utah State University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science and a teaching certificate in 1982. In 1982 she moved to Houston Texas, attending graduate school at the University of Houston and graduating with a Masters of Art in Communication Disorders in 1985. After graduate school, Anna was a Speech Pathologist in a middle school and in a high school in Houston. She went on to earn certificates in literacy and in teaching reading to learning disabled children and adults. Anna was also an adjunct professor at the University of Houston and taught graduate level courses in her field. In 1991, when her twins were born, Anna started a private practice in Speech Pathology and Reading. She and her employees serviced four private schools. She also earned a Dyslexia certificate at this time and continued to study reading, curriculum, and teacher development. Anna’s role at the schools included testing, individual and group therapy, developing curriculum, teacher in-service and training, and helping teachers find ways to teach all students. Officers In 1997 Anna and her family moved to Park City. Anna moved back home to be near her parents and the mountains, and to work at Carden Christian Academy. Anna has functioned as the school’s Learning Specialist for the last seven years. Her role has included varied activities such as admissions testing, individual student testing, and program development, all to help children reach their highest potential. Anna has worked with children from all grades, individually and in small groups. She has also taught in the classroom and helped mentor teachers in Language Arts, Reading, and Writing. Anna has observed in the classroom, and has made suggestions for ways to help children learn more easily. She also has been involved with SAT preparation and testing. Anna also has a big heart for home schooling. She views parents as the first and most important teachers of their children; thus, Anna has been a support to home schooling parents, teaching Reading/Language Arts and Literature to home schooled students. Anna comes to Ogden Valley with many creative ideas. She hopes to provide support to children in all learning situations, including public and private schools and home schooling. Anna will be providing curriculum support at the Old Firehouse Learning Academy. Her goal is to help Becky and Chris Daugaard make the Old Firehouse Learning Academy one of the best facilities in the area. This fall, Anna will be involved in curriculum development and refinement, helping to enhance reading programs in selected classrooms. She also will offer individual student assessment, reading/learning therapy, and individualized classes.
