When Kelsey won state this year, he felt worse over Colt not winning than being happy over die fact he had taken state. That was just die type of kid he was, he cared for others. It was great to see him stand on the podium as he represented himself, his team, and his school. I was vay proud of him!" "Kelsey worked extremely hard to obtain his persona goal of winning the state competition this year, he was very dedicated, worked hard and he reached it! He was never a problem, and it was a privilege for me to be able to work with him. He and the team had fun on the road trips and they were always happy when one of diem won they became close as a team. He was one of the leaders and. one of die best wrestlers I have coached." Hamilton said that besides wrestling, Kelsey "often spent time in our home. We are certainly going to miss him veiy much." "The first day of school was cancelled this year, to allow the teaching staff and students to attend die - funeral service," said North Summit School District Superintendent, Steve Carlsen. "Kelsey was well liked by a lot of students and had some great friends. As his former principal, I was able to view him up close and personal, and to see the type of person he was. His death is certainly a great loss to his peers and die community." Principal Jene Holmes, who worked closely with Kelsey, called him a "quiet winner." "At die state wrestling meet, after he had won, he simply walked off the mat as if he had "taken care of business!" He taught through example that a person needs to become fully committed to something once they decide to do it --- they need to go full out. Kelsey was someone who did things his way after making up his mind what it was he wanted to do. This is definitely a terrible tragedy that has affected a huge number of people. While speaking at his funeral service. Holmes dedicated a poem, which he had written to Kelsey: The Champion's Quiet Message You came and went in H'hat seems a twinkle of an eye, We'U miss your quiet way and your willingness to try. You went out a champ in such a humble, dignified way. But the message you sent we receive with pride today. Your life is now an example for each of us to follow, The lessons you lease us might be too big to swallow. We'U have to start slow and master it part by part, We'U be as committed as you, that's whf e we'll start. We'll work harder than we ever thought we could. Your memory will motivate us to do belter than we should. We too can be champs if we'U but follow your lead. Doing it with humility will be the toughest part indeed. We'U keep in our minds that picture of you at stale. Winning the championship tha' declared you as great. Not so much the win but the humility that you displayed. Thats the sermon you gave us that will never die or fade. Then we'U move on and work on having your good heart. That disguised sensitivity will be our next crucial part Holding the gold in your hand w as not the end of your story. Your concern for your defeated friend was your true glory. We thank you and honor you for the life that you shared. Underneath that tough body was a young man who cared. Your message will live on and your memory we will save. Goodbye dear friend.
