By student reporter; rdee Jones It was s great weather weekend for high school rodeo this week as the South Summit Team was in Spanish Fork and Nephi.' Kacey and Kat went to Nephi to Queen and did a great job, Lacey ended up fourth and Kat won Congeniality. Mardee was in Spanish Fork and was awarded horsemanship and was crowned Queen. In Spanish Fork, Lindzi had a screaming pole run with a 19.7 to Summer-Guar- d Begins Student Writer: Jamie Niitsuma win poles, Krista also finished in the top qualifiers in poles. Lindzi finished ninth in barrels. Kolt was second in bareback, and Will Yoder split eighth place in the bareback. In Nephi. Summer-Guar- d is for both boys and girls, and offers a great opportunity to learn about how to handle weapons in a military marching fashion. Tae Kwon Do State Championships Last month, the Tae Kwon Do State Championships were held in Tooele. Here arc just a few of the major things they have done this year. Perhaps the most successful and most memorable event of the year for the Interact Club was the Global Community Dinner" held on March 28. With over 300 people in attendance, the dinner raised S2.000 in donations for charities working toward alleviating world hunger. The ber Valley ational Bank -- ft community teally pulled together to help make the dinner a big success. The Interact Club would like to thank all those w ho participated and helped with the dinner and who donated their time and money which will change someone clses life. This year the club also staned a mentoring program with the seventh graders through which members became their Buddy's throughout the year. One of the very successful events included working with the seventh graders to carve pumpkins lm the senior citizens. The mentoring progtam also worked extensively with the liuth for Youth Anti Tobacco contest making videos and advertisements and then sharing them with the entire middle schxl. Next year promises to be just as busy and rewarding lor Interact Club members. Anyone interested in participating should contact Club Advisor Melissa Evans at the High School. Russian Students Win Medals at Culture Competition Sharia Jensen won a first place in Poetry Recitation and third place in Conversation at the State Culture Bow l Competition this year. Cami Sorenson took first in Beginning Conversation, and Jacque third place in Lee received Recitation for a Poetry Beginning memorized recitation. The team won an overall third place in the competition. They added the singing of a popular Russian song and a skit performed in Russian to their participation in the tournament.
