Show HERALD DAILY Sunday, August 24, 2008 B5 Melvin Jarvis Oveson 1919-200- 8 Dir loving father, grandfather, brother, unde, and friend, Melvin Jarvii Oveson, returned home peacefully August 19. 2008. He was bom the tenth of twelve children to David Patten and Annie Jarvis Oveson in St. Johns, ' Arizona on November 25, 1919. As a young boy, he loved riding and taking care of horses and he learned to love work by helping his father around the ranch. He graduated from St. Johns High School where he played basketball and foot ball In 1938, he left far and BYU and began working for Geneva SteeL He married Romania Allred and soon left to serve his country in Japan and the Philippines during World War II. When he returned home after the War, he worked for Dixon Taylor Russell Company, where he sold fine furnishings and laid carpet, tile and linoleum for many from Price to Salt Lake. In 1953, he married Edith dark whom he loved dearly. He was a purchas-- . fng agent for BYU Auxiliary Maintenance until his retirement. Melvin always loved to work with his hands. His creations included everything from beautiful tooled leatherwork to great furniture to home additions. If you envisioned k, he could build it. He loved horses, the outdoors and hunt-- ing season and he was a master gardener. Dad was an avid BYU fan wkh over 37 years of season basketball tickets. Moat of all, he enjoyed spending time with his ' children and grandchildren and they enjoyed him! He taught his children the value of work and was a great example of service to family and neighbors. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many ward and stake positions including Scout Master, ward clerk, Sunday School President, counselor in the bishopricand ward greeter. He cherished his time serving at the Provo Temple. We are so grateful for his influence in our lives. We love you. Dad- He is survived by his five children Cady (Lonnie) Gleave, Orem; David (Geraldine) Oveson, Sandy; Judy Prestwich Brooks, Salt Lake Cky; Janet (Ray) Pickup, South Jordan; Dr. Mark (Inger) Oveson, Nephi; 19 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and three great, greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Levi (Oleta) Oveson, Mountain Home, Arkansas, and many Aieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 11:00 am. at the Hrovo 15th Ward Chapel, 89 South 900 East, Provo.
