Active in the LDS Church in the Lapoint Ward, she serves as Ward Music Chairman. Ward Choristor, and Choir Director. Arda is a graduate of the old Alterra High School that was located near lapoint. The old school was torn down a few years ago when it became obsolete. During High School, she was active in music, drama, and enjoyed English. "Nobody is supposed to enjoy English classes, but I did." Arda reminisced. At one time. Arda was the secretary for Alterra High. She has also served as secretary at the Union High School in Roosevelt and the Uintah High School in Vernal. "I really loved my years as secretary at the High Schools. I miss the kids because I got close to alot of them. Even now when they see me on the street, ihev will go out of their way and cross over just to say 'hello'." Arda gave up her job as secretary when her health demanded a less rigorous schedule. She is now considering a bookkeeping career, which could be done in her home. Ardas hands are never idle. When she is sitting down, her lap is full of crochet w ork. Their home is filled with lovely doilies and afghans she has made. She also has some upholstery projects in progress, one of which is a new cover for a rocking love seat. Arda was born and raised in Lapoint. near the home she is now living in. Her parents are Golden and Thelma Winn, life time residents of Lapoint. She met her husband Matthew, in Provo, Utah. He is a Naturopathic Physician and at the time of their meeting, had an office close to ArdaY work. When she was suffering some physical distress, a friend reccommcnded Dr. Mansfield for treatment. This is how the Mansfield Y became acquainted and their marriage has "endured thirty happy years." After some years in Utah, the Mansfield Y moved to the San Fernando Valley, California, where they lived for fifteen years. In 1972 an earthquake demolished their home. Arda said "It was not just the initial quake that made us nervous, but all the after shocks! Every time another shock was about to begin, all the dogs in the neighborhood started to bark, then we knew it was coming." After a shake up like this, returning to good old Utah sounded mighty nice. The Mansfields left California and moved to Kearns. Utah. After a short time they moved to Upoint. They have an old home just off the Lapoint Highway they are busily remodeling and expanding. "We will finish it someday if Matt will stop changing his mind!" Arda sighed. Matthew and Aida have six children, Mrs. Gifford (Carol) Lee and Kyle Mansfield, Lapoint. Kim and James Mansfiejd. and Mrs. Boyd (Sarah Jean) Nance, of Salt Lake City and Mrs. Michael (Keeta) Hammond, Glendale, Arizonia. |
