Show October 29, 1999 The Summit County Bee North Summit Senior Citizens BY LOUISE WALLACE isnt cut out for the bachelor President Shirley Phelps conducted the meeting on Wednesday, thanked Abbie Bakaric, R.N. who came all the way from Oakley to take our blood pressures. Twenty five took advantage of her services and you know what? We're all doing fairly well. Now, I don't know as you can call that exciting but it certainly is exciting to know we will be seeing Abbie every third Wednesday each month and she's nice loo. Shirley was sick Friday. Vice President, Grant Geary had gonna fishin' so Betty Wilde, Chairperson of the Board conducted the meeting. She read a note from Thelma Crandall as written by her daughter, Pauline Hills. She is a lovely lady and very appreciative of the cards and letters you all send so keep up the good work and do remember! too, ail your home bound friends. It's nice to get mail that isn't a bill or an entry for a sweepstakes. We're glad to know that Leah Nielson and Sherry Treen are both home from the hospital. Woodrow is happier than we are that Leah is home, he knows for a fact that he WoodiyMiiyi Only Nrturs Should PaM Roctot Give a hoot Don't pollute. Fork Service, B US-D.- life. Sherry's operation was successful and she'll soon be singing with the group as will Margaret C. Sargent who had surgery, I think on Monday. June tells us that her husband, Keily Wilde is doing much better. We hope you all get well and stay that way. We have amidst us a man of many talents. As you can see by the picture, Grant Geary has a green thumb and reaped an abundant harvest It's even prettier in color and whats more he shared the produce with us. He not only has a green thumb, he is a super card shark, a fantastic story teller and entertainer and loves to sing. He is an artist a worker of wood crafts and from the tall tales I hear, fish fear him and the deer and elk try to stay out of his sights. Now, I ask you, is it any wonder that he is running unopposed to retain the position of Vice President in our election to be held Nov. 3, 1999? Wills Dearden is in charge of the elections and she has contacted ever so many of you. The response has been rather luke warm. However, those who accepted have done so without being prodded to do so and that is a good sign. We need folks with enthusiasm and new thoughts. We encourage you to come out and vote even if it ' Page A7 is just to give the candidates your vote of confidence and pledge your support. Besides Grant running for Vice President, I am running, also unopposed to retain the position of Treasurer and we have four running for Board Members. They are: Louise Judd, Loraine Rock. Keith Shaw and Pat Treen. Ballots haven't been printed yet so you can still have your name placed on the slate but you will need to hurry. Daylight time goes off this weekend. Set your clocks BACK one hour before you retire Saturday night. It surely wouldn't do to show up to church an hour early now would it? We hear so many stories about the big game hunters that I just have to tell you this one. My Uncle Joe went deer huntin' last week. 1 seen a big 5 point buck deer he tells me, " 'n I took two quick shots. What happened?" I asked him. Well, by the time I got the cork back on the jug," he sez, dadgummed deer wuz gone' See you next week and dont forget to get out and vote at Tuesdays elections. Let your vote count. Reverse Mortgages: How To Make a Safe Decision The Federal National Mortgage more Association, commonly known as Fannie Mae. has purchased well over 30.000 reverse mortgages nasince the program's inceptionally tion in 1989. These reverse mortgages have helped thousands of seniors across the country in their quest for financial independence. govern-mentinsur- f ,The U.S. Department ed of Huusing and Urban Development (HUD) recently released a national listing of reverse mortgage lenders by the volume of loans originated, naming ' Unity Mortgage CorpVThe Reverse Mortgage Company as the leading lender with approximately 4,982 insured reverse mortgages to date. A reverse mortgage is a home loan for people 62 years of age or over. The amount of money a borrower is eligible to receive from their reverse mortgage is determined by three primary factors: the age of the youngest borrower (you must be at least 62 years of age), the value of the home and the current interest rate. Proceeds can be received in either a line of credit, lump sum,' monthly payments or a combination of any or all of the three options. The money can be used for any purpose the borrower desires they can use the money to pay off existing debts, fix up the home or to take a vacation. There are no income or credit qualifications and the cash received is treated as taxfree income, since it is considered proceeds from a loan (consult your tax advisor). In response to the tremendous growth in the popularity of reverse f mortgages, Fannie Mae has issued a publication entitled Your Reverse Mortgage Five Steps for Safety. The booklet provides potential reverse mortgage borrowers with guidelines to ensure that they play it safe when researching and obtaining a reverse mortgage. According to the publication, the best way to ensure that you make an informed decision about whether or not you should obtain a reverse mortgage is to follow their five steps. These steps are: 1. Learn the basics about what a reverse mortgage is. what reverse mortgages are available and how they work. 2. Decide if a reverse mortgage is rr 7Dr. Steven IL Drown Specialist in ' Orthodontics for Children & Adults your Cure for o jScory smile! right for you.
