St. Joseph Beats South Summit in Overtime Student Writer: Jessica Dewey and Penny Knight The St. Joe Jayhawks rolled in to town on Thursday for the Ladycais Homecoming soccer game. There were more fans than usual in the crowd to cheer on the team. The game started off w ith a quit, k goal from St. Joe. However that did not dampen the Ladvcats spirits. They came back on (he next play and defended their Homccomine turf with a difficult score from Kum Edwards that was just out of reach for the Jayhawk goalie. Neither team backed down however, the intensity rose and at half the score was tied 2 to 2 on another goal from Kasi Edwards. Starting the half, the Wildcat line was changed Juli Walker was placed at striker and Penny Knight was put back into the stopper position. The switch seemed to be a success as the Jayhawks were held back and the score remained unchanged. The original line was put in later on in the second half but didn't seem to phase either side. The intensity of the game and the fans were kept high and the score still remained the same. After regulation, they went into overtime. The first goal in overtime was scored by Jennie Herbert from a penalty kick which soared over the Ja hawks heads and sunk into the goal perfectly. The fans went wild. The Jayhawks became furious and refused to lose to a team who they lud slaughtered by huge margins in previous years. They came back and scoicd a goal. The Ladycats wouldn't let them win so easily though, they had come this far and weren't about to quit. Just before time had run out the Jayhawks scored another goal and saved (hem from a sluxit out w ith South Summit. The Ladycats were monified that a game they had dominated for the past hour and a half was lost. This was extremely disturbing to the Seniors, who at the beginning of the game were introduced along with their parents. They knew that the last game they played on their field was a loss. They appreciate the fans for all their encouragement and support. After the game there were many comments that the 34 outcome of the game did not reflect (he effort played by the teams. 99's Homecoming Royalty Selected Eighth Grade Beats Granger As the second quarter begun.
