And after read- Franks ing Lucinda interview with Hillary Rodham Clinton in Talk Magazine's premiere issue, I was not impressed with llRC's hard-se- ll about her errant husband being the victim to all those ladies in his life. Especially repugnant was her newest dodge for Bill's innocence when she blamed Ma and Grandma, both now dead, for Bill's addictive behavior. Even O.J. never copped this kind of defense. Equally suiprising was the fact that Hillary never objected to Franks' use of the word addiction" in describing his behavior. In fact she. logically (to her), describes his rooted in lust and behavior as pathology" where his love" for her is enduring.' Interesting book, but at the same time a little disturbing. Made me look at my surroundings at little differently, that's for sure. On a happier note, my little grandson. Life's BY JAN ROWLEY by Leon Slmlstcr II September 17 1999 The Summit County Bee reamed that there are some guarantees, at least in my own life. In fact there are several things I can count on besides the standard death and taxes. Here are just a few: I can be sure that either my son, Jace or his cousin, Cody will have a "stinky gross diaper at the exact moment I put the car in reverse to back out of my drive way. I can count on the phone ringing just as the kids close their eyes, teetering on the brink of dreamland. A weekend of shampooing the carpet inevitably will end with someone toting a spill proof cup, spilling grape juice in the middle of the slightly damp, but for a brief moment, spotlessly clean floor. Due to a decision by the County Commissioners a new company will come in on January 1, 2000. 1 was at the meeting when the decision was made. I had never been to a commissioners meeting before and I really was a little shocked by the way it went on. While people were speaking to them they sal there and munched on candy. One of them even got up while someone was speaking and walked to the other side of the room to get more treats then sat back down and then proceeded to spit a piece of candy out into a napkin. That wasn't what I wanted to see! I felt that the issues at hand were quite important and needed to be treated as such. As they spoke about prices and changes and mentioned the increases in taxes that would cause, I wondered is garbage a service or a tax? Because it comes on our Property tax does that make it a tax? To me that is a service. Many other counties are billed by the garbage companies monthly or quarterly and it is not considered a tax. Just to let some of you with children in the North Summit School District know this decision will cause A HUGE money problem for our district North Summit can't afford to lose the money this company generates. To my knowledge the new company has yet to acquire ground for their new site and when they do I would be willing to bet theres a pretty good chance that it won't be in the North Summit area. I wonder will we be able to bus our children to Park Gty for school. I don't know the true numbers on the bid but from what I understood there's about a .50 cent difference per home. It's hard to believe that a 20 year Summit County company is now done. Oh by the way- - it's not only residential garbage but business' that will be changed So get ready people here they come. The letter to the editor in the September 10 issue by the Brewers of Henefer hit home for most citizens. When my wife and I bought our home in Hoytsville in 1996, the taxes were $550.00 per year. The tax bill which arrived that fall was for three times that amount. The Brewers letter caused me to turn to the dictionary and look up the word extortion. It said, to wrest or wring money, information, etc.) From a person by violence, intimidation, or abuse of authority: obtain by force, torture, threat, or the like. Whether one is required to pay protection money in order to keep ones home, a fraction of one's income, or ones life to a government, extortion, by any other name, is just as wrong. W'aco and Ruby Ridge revealed clearly how eager armed government employees are to kill, seize, and destroy. We talk about freedom a lot in our country. To realize true freedom, however, will require a willingness to see things as they truly are, admit the reality of our society, and begin taking more control of our own lives. I commend the Brewers for speaking out. Wayne Healey Coalville a Summit Counhj &e Rhonda Francis Hoytsville BOOK OF TOE WEEK BY JAN ROWLEY Danielle Steel, The Klone and I Its been a long time since I picked up a Danielle Steel novel After reading countless of her romance novels, I suddenly stopped. It: seemed after a while that they all started to run together with similar1 themes, just different characters. Recently a good friend (who absolutely detests romance novels) surprised my by saying, You gotta read this one. I immediately did if V read a Danielle Steel novel, there must be a dam good reason. There was. The Klone and I is not like any other Danielle Steel novel I have read, (and I've read quite a few) It is laugh out loud funny The comedy so greatly outweighs the romance that it begs for a new classification of romance novels. You've heard of the romantic comedy well this is the comedic romance. Steel's wit and humor in this novel is a wonderful change from the norm. It's lively, fresh and fun. Stephanie has a wonderful life, a kind 1 isband, 2 lovely children, a generous trust fund, and flannel pajamas. She is content with her life, loves the comfort of it - and her pajamas, perhaps too much. Then one day, with no warning signs, her husband sits her down and tells her he doesn't love her anymore. Divorce follows, complete with the other woman. After so many years of marriage, Stephanie struggles to readjust to her new lifestyle it takes a while tat she eventually gets it together,, gets rid of the flannel gets a fashionable hairdo, and even starts dating Frustrated with the lack of sane, normal men, Stephanie decides to k take a by herself, and runs into a seemingly normal, pleasant man. Peter Klone seems to be just the man she has been looking for. They date, and begin to care deeply for each other. However, when Pieter goes out of town on business for 2 weeks things get a little out of hand. Peter tells Stephanie he has a surprise for her, and although die tries to imagine what that might be, she could never have imagined what was in store for her. She even has difficulty understanding when she is face to face with the surprise. However confusing it may be, Stephanie (and even her children) have an incredibly memorable lime while Peter is away. Eventually Stephanie finds herself in a love triangle, where she seems to have the best of both worlds. It is confusing, bewildering, fun, and exciting, but in the end it is too much and she decides maybe she is better off alone or maybe not. . mini-brea- the Summit County Bet (U PSP 52940) la publlalicd weekly tar SIS per year In Summit County, Sailor Citizen Diecount, SIS In county; 21 by Wav tubl Istilng Inc.. 079 Weal IOO South.
