The fourth quarter once again belonged to the Ladycats as they spent a lot of time at the free throw line late in the game. A majority of the fouls were anything but lady like, with the Templars fouling out three players. Megan DeGering, Becky Dees and Tiff Thomas were all effective from the line, allowing the Ladycats to maintain their lead and surge ahead for the win, 66-5- 4. Three Ladycats ended the night scoring in double figures: Tiffany with 16, and Rachel and Natalie both with 12. Megan added nine points, while Becky contributed 8. Stephanie Cummings, Mayon Sargeant and Ashley Simpson also saw action for the Ladycats. If you are still wondering, a Templar is a mounted knight. On this night, the Ladycats from South Summit knocked the Lady Knight from her mount. USA Volunteer. Student Writer: Megan Foust Have you been out to watch the Ladycats JV team? Well if you haven't, you are missing out. The Ladycats had shown the five out of six teams they had played just what Wildcat spirit was all about. Showing up to this game wasnt going to be any different. With the unusually warm weather for the twelfth of January the Ladycats were psyched. Thus, they were ready to go out and prove themselves to the Manti Templars. Starting the game for the Ladycats were Chelsea McNeil, Natalie Marchant, Stephanie Cummings, Lindsey Crystal, and Jade Atkinson. They came out with a rather intimidating first quarter pulling ahead to a 13-- 6 lead. However, in the second quarter the Lady Templars came alive and began managing to get the ball to the hoop allowing them to score 12 points in the second quarter. The Ladycats didn't do as well the second quarter only scoring a mere 7 points. At halftime the Ladycats were still ahead, but only with a score of 20-1With the cheerleaders leading the small crowd in some cheers, the Ladycats once again took the floor. The halftime score must have been an eye opener because the Ladycats began to come alive once again making the score a 35-2- 1 at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Templars tried to do their best to come back in the fourth quarter, but were unable to get past the mighty green and white. The Ladycats pulled off another win to 8. Obviously the JV Ladycats are doing well this year. Great job! The Ladycats did suffer one loss, however, when junior guard Lindsey Crystal went down with a knee injury. She may be gone for the rest of the season, which is a big blow to the team. However, the Freshman Ladycats didnt seem to have the adrenaline that the JV had In the first quarter the Ladycats couldn't quite get the ball to go in the hoop. Having this difficulty, the Ladycats only made 7 points in the first quarter. They were trailing by 10 points at the beginning of the second quarter. This made the team a little discouraged and in the second quarter they were still unable to make up for their deficit. Halftime came and went in a hurry and the Ladycats once again took the floor. Knowing the score was 22-1- 1 in Manti's favor, the Ladycats were going to try their hardest to overcome that. But the third quarter didn't end up any better than the first half and they were still trailing behind. This was not the way they would have liked it, but their energy level didn't seem to rise any and neither did their score. They ended up losing to the Manti Templars with final score being 45-3- 4. Better luck next time! Leading the scoring for the Freshmen Ladycats were Brittni Woodard with 12 points and Mardec Jones with eight The other members of the team include Sheena Bigelow, Lacey Potter, Shelby Atkinson, Natalie Smith, Jessica Crook, Cherise Beckstead, and Cicily Prescott Cats in Desert Storm Corporation I One, Dixie's Desert Storm Invitational. Different from the rest of the teams, the Wildcat team was split between two different tournaments. On Friday, the Wildcats started wrestling around 4 p.m. The winners moved on to the second round and the losers had to wait until Saturday to start the consolation round. By the end of competition, there weren't any South Summit wrestlers left in the winner's bracket At 8 a.m. Saturday the Wildcats began wrestling in the consolation round. At the end of the third round, John Neff, Dan Ruff, Dean Kunz, 654-281- 8 Alex Wilford, Ty Lazenby, and Anthony Sandoval were eliminated from the tournament and spent the rest of the day watching Paul Kunz, Corey Anderson, Dan Marchant, Chad Price, Aaron Westerman, and freshman West Walker. Kunz wrestled a tough kid from Delta and was unable to beat him in the consolation round and ended up with fourth place. Anderson ended with a win and took fifth place. Marchant - fighting off a cold walked away with fifth place. While wrestling for consolation, Price injured his opponent. His opponent was forced to forfeit giving Price an easy third place. Finishing off in sixth place was West Walker. SuSscriSe To The Bee! APPRAISER Page Bl Game Between South Summit and Lehi A Close Student Writer: Crystal Sargent On the date of Friday, the 16th of January, the South Summit High School Wildcats faced the Lehi Pioneers for one more round of heavy competition in basketball. The heat was on in the Lehi gymnasium. The Wildcats almost conquered, and they played tough. The final score was Wildcats 58 and the Pioneers 61. The Wildcats played with all their might That is really all that matters. During the first quarter, our players were very enthusiastic as they entered the gym. The crowd was cheering loudly. Also, we had a lot of supporting fans that were cheering them on throughout the entire game. Our Wildcat fans never give up. For the first time in a while, the Cats were able to keep the score close in the first half and were only down by three at the half. All of our players made such great efforts, and during the game they paid off. James Chavez, a Senior, scored the most points during the game with a total of 20 points. Next in line with a total of 12 points was Senior Chris Larsen. Justin another Senior, played Rockhill, very well also. He scored a total of 10 points, followed by Jason Haymore with the total of 5 points. The other two Seniors, Joe Goaies and Andy Woolstenhulme also contributed to the game. Not only the Seniors were making baskets. The Juniors were also coming into the game very strong. Junior Cody Howkk gave it his all and he also conquered by scoring points for our team. Ethan Atkinson also played with excellence. The juniors are showing everyone that they have a lot of strength and will live up to the reputation that our school holds for never giving up. This was a very close game. This particular game was very intense. Yet, there will be many more to come for our determined team to face. Dont give up Wildcat fans, and don't give up team. We are one of the strongest schools and teams and we will conquer in the end. Good luck, and keep playing hard and strong. Wildcats Fall To The Templars Student Writers: Dan Smith and Staff Another long bus ride and another horrid first quarter must have seemed like deja vu' for the Wildcats of South Summit after their latest trip to Manti. The Cats seem to be setting a pattern of gening down early in the game, staging a neat miracle comeback in the third quarter and coming oh so dose in the fourth. Unfortunately for the Cats, the pattern continued against MantL The Templars jumped all over the Cats early to take a 22-- 8 first quarter advantage. The Cats managed to slow Manti down in the second quarter, but were will way behind at the half. Whatever the Cats talked about in the locker room, it worked because the Cats literally blew the Templar off their horse in the third quarter outscoring them 27-1taking a two point lead after three quartets. The Wildcats used a balanced scoring attack and some killer defense to get back into the game. Unfortunately for the Cats, they seem to have used up all of their energy in fighting back as the fourth quarter, and the game, went to the Templars. The final score was 66-6- 2 in favor of Manti. The Cats had 2, three players score in double figures with Chris Larsen leading the way with 13. Both James Chavez and Joey Edmunds added 12, while Jason Haymore dumped in 9 and Justin Rockhill contributed 8. The mighty JV Wildcats were defeated earlier in the Templars hometown. In the first quarter, the Cats scored ten points. Not bad, considering they held Manti to only nine. The second quarter was the exact opposite in scoring leaving the team tied at nineteen at the half. Neither team could hit their shots and both teams played a tough defense. The third quarter was a tough one for the Cats. They played hard and scored 11 points, but this was not good enough as Manti finished the quarter with 17. In the fourth, the Cats were behind by six. It wasnt to stay this way for long. The Wildcats took control and tied the game. The Templars; however, were able to pull away at the end and sank their final shot to win 50-4The Cats fought hard throughout the game. Ethan Atkinson fought hard scoring fifteen of the team's 48 points. Joey Edmunds can claim nine and Dustin Pypcr had six points in the loss. 8. 11 Summit County is currently recruiting far a full-tim- e Appraiser It.
