Show mi m 4B nx n 'T The Summit County Bee Coalville, UT 84017 Friday, November 6, 1987 Public Notices Animal Shelter News: Backyard Prodigy Irresponsible backyard breeding produces many more animals than there are homes for. In order to keep up with the current flood of pups and kittens, every person would have to own two dogs and six cats during their lifetime. A household of five would have to harbor 10 dogs and 35 cats. However, one can argue that the emergence of any new form of life is a miracle of nature and a fascinating one at that. New dimensions in relationships could be established with your pet as a family member and it would be an easy way of making extra money so you might think. Perhaps you feel that your pet has desirable characteristics that should be passed on through off- spring. If so, consider that breeding animals whether responsible or irresponsible, is very costly and time consuming. The majority of breeders, from rabbits to pigs to horses, barely cover their expenses and usually subsidize their breeding programs from other income. The columns and columns of classified ads, selling or giving away pups and kittens verify that there is far too many people recklessly allowing their pets to breed out of control; and then, a visit to an animal shelter shows how many there are of the unwanted ones that we have to execute. Ready for adoption Keeshond cross, male, about two years, very friendly and obedient. Shelter hours 2 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Phone 649-544- 9.
