Show The Summit County Bee Coalville, UT 84017 Friday, November 6, 1987 5A Braves Declaw Tigers (forth Summit The North Summit Braves downed Milford 28-in a playoff game Oct. 27 at North Summit to enable them to advance to the State Quarter Finals. The game began with Todd Smith of the Braves catching a pass and running it in for a touchdown giving the Braves a lead over Milford. Travis Rowscr also had some nice runs. Jason Gunn and Tim Rogers had sonic nice catches for good yardage for the Braves. Another touchdown was scored for the Braves by Jeff Richins making it harder to the Tigers to catch up. The extra point kick by Beau Morrill was good for a 10-- 0 lead 0; 7-- 0 for the Braves in the first quarter. The second quarter began with Willdcn of Milford making it to the line of scrimmage. Milford decided to punt. Travis Rowser caught the ball but received no yardage on the run back. Beau Morrill, on a keep, made a nice run. At first and five, Morrill completed a pass to Todd Smith. Jeff R. made a touchdown followinp a nlav iust short of the 45-yar- d line. Another extra point kick was good by Beau. The punt return for Milford was short because of Greg Arnolds stop. Sam Garfield also made some nice tackles. Willden completed a pass to Dutson who was stopped by Jason G. making it third and 10. Wade Wilde tipped the ball to make it four and . A nice punt return was made by the Braves. Morrill, on a keep, picked up 10 and was stopped by Willden and Puffer. Jeff Richins d made a gain making it second and four. Rowser made a first down. Again, Rowser ran, but was stopped by Mike Long of Milford. An interception was made by Linden of Milford who was stopped by Greg Ball and Travis Rowscr. Linden on a keep then was stopped by Greg Ball and Kerry S. A run was made by Preston who was also stopped by Kerry S. An interception was then made by Kyle Dcarden making it first and 10, Braves on the 3 yard line. Braves gained three 1 1 six-yar- 1 -- yards making it second and seven. Rogers caught a pass through the arms of a defender, making another TD for a final score of 28-Congratulations to the team for this fine effort. 0. Monticello slipped past North Summit to advance to the I A State Football Semi Finals. Jeff Richins, with IS carries for 128 yards rushing and one touchdown, along with Travis Rowser, with eight carries for 19 yards rushing and four returns for 36 yards, led the Braves ground attack. 19-1- 6, Quarterback, Beau Morrill, added to Brave offense with a field goal for three. Kyle Dearden, with one touchdown reception and four receptions for 54 yards, and Todd Smith, who had four receptions and 46 yards, aided in the offensive battle. An interception and return by Wade Wilde led the defensive effort. 95-ya- rd The Braves lost momentum in the final minutes of the game and Monticello capitalized to win, 19-1- 6. Elementary Students Participate in Seat Belt Poster Contest the students of the elementary school had the opportunity to participate in an exciting poster contest. The AH Cresta Allen and Jeff Richins, first attendants; Susan Osmond, queen; Kerry Stephens, king; Shelly Friery and Cody Stephens, second attendants. Homecoming Royalty Chosen by Biyant Richins The winners of the North Summit Homecoming Royalty pageant were; Susan Osmond, Kerry Stephens, king; ?ueen; Allen and Jeff Richins, first attendants; and Shelly Friery and Cody Stephens, second attendants. There were six finalists: Lori Richins, Jodi Adkins, Susan Osmond, Cresta Allen, Shelly Friery, and Sue Dearden for queen, and Greg Ball, Travis Rowser, Jeff Richins, Cody Stephens, Kerry Stephens, and Todd Smith for king. Each of the, contestants modeled and answered a question at an assembly Wednesday. While the judges tallied the scores, some special awards were given out. One was the Grammy award to Valynn Spaf-for- d for music. She received some grammy crackers. The Oscar went to Shane Olsen for the best costume. They awarded him a package of Oscar Meyer wieners. The- Golden globe award was received by Nathan Sargent (Larry), Mark Colder-woo- d (Daryll), Wade Smith (Daryll). They received a light bulb. This was a very exciting event for all of the contestants, and we would like to give a special - thanks to judges Lemon, County Government Hosts Seniors Roger students have been learning about seat belts and safety while riding in a motor vehicle. They have had a highway patrolman tell them how using seat belts can save lives and they watched a movie about safety. The PATCH (Planned Approach to Com- munity Health) Coalition sponsored citizens who were the judges of the contest. The winners of the contest were: Henley 1st grade: 1st Misty Brooks; 2nd Stefanie Rees; 3rd Lindsay Siddoway 2nd grade: 1st Amanda Stephens; 2nd Elias Strebel; 3rd Ben Fellows 3rd grade: 1st Sara Bates; 2nd Crittenden, and Bob Banz, Sargent 4th grade: 1st Jody Casper; wishes to thank Mr. Kay Richins for his support and cooperation for this project. They would also like to thank the teachers, students, PTA, senior citizens and the Utah Highway Patrol for making this event a success. Middle School Halloween Dance by Chad Smith, Joey Banz and Lincoln Judd kindergarten: 1st Bryce Gardner; 2nd Jeramy Pritchard; 3rd Lade Janice' Hindi Bosworth; 3rd Camie Christine Peterson, emcee. 2nd Amber McKee; 3rd Lana Judd All the winners names were then placed in a hat and the grand prize drawing took place. The grand prize winner of a S50 bill was Amber McKee. PATCH On Oct. 30 the middle school had a Halloween dance. The students got dressed up in their costumes and headed for the big event. When they got there, the students were very excited. The teachers started the music and the students began to dance. Near the end of the dance they had a dance contest in which two couples won lunch tickets. The couples that won were Cade Sargent and Stephanie Lemon and Josh Richins and Stephanie Ovard. They also had a costume contest. The winners of the contest were Josh Richins, scar iest; Hollie Moore, funniest; and Brandy Diston, most original. After the dance was over, they served donuts and punch. It was a successful dance and everyone had a good time. i' by Dean! Vernon Seniors from North Summit and South Summit High Schools attended the "Know Your County Government Day" at the Summit County Courthouse last Tuesday. The morning session began with a welcome from Rep. Glen Brown in the Circuit Courtroom. Next the seniors sat in on the 5th Circuit Court, under the direction of Judge Jones. Students were allowed to ask questions about the actual cases 'presented, before dividing into several groups to tour the courthouse. Each office, from the Sheriffs to the Recorders, was visited. After the lunch break, they were shown a video of James Holland. The County Commissioners wrapped up the day with interesting ideas. 0 It was very successful, and as a senior, I thank all those who put time and effort into such a wonderful introduction to county government! Volleyball at State The N.S. Lady Braves placed eighth and Susan Osmond was named to the Academic team in the State 1A volleyball competition at Price, Oct. 31. Susan, daughter of Richard and Helen Osmond, with a GPA of 3.98 was among the 10 top students selected for this honor in the 1A division of the state. The Lady Braves, bouncing back from a 14-- 7 loss to Beaver in the first game of the consolation All-stat- e championship, asserted their determination and skill by winning the second game, Although psyched up and with the momentum in their favor at the beginning of the third game, they were plagued with missed serves, had difficulty picking up the spikes in the center of the court, and miscommunicated on who would take the play when in doubt. They made a valiant effort to stay in the game and held Beaver at 14 points for seven changes of serve. They finally succumbed 15-In the first round of play on Friday, the Braves were defeated and by Gunnison 15-The Braves took an early lead 10-- 2 in each of these games, but lost momentum in each case despite superior serves by Leslie and spikes by Jennifer and Susan. The team greatly appreciated the uspport of the football team who stopped in on iheir way to Monticello for Quarter finals. Moving into the consolation 15-- 5. 3, 15-1- 2. 8. bracket, the Braves held a slim lead over Intermountain Christian throughout the match as the teams traded serves and points. Good team effort and steady play kept the Braves in control for the win after two games. The Braves won a decisive against Altamont, victory 15-- 4, in the first two games and of round three Saturday, to qualify for the consolation championship game. Susan Osmond served seven straight to help the Braves to an early lead in the first game which they maintained and won easily. Good effort by Dcanni, Shelly, Susan, Leslie, Jodee, and Jennifer, spikes; Shelly and LaNece, saves; Shari and Nancy, back row passes; sets by LaNece and Jennifer kept the team in the second game to a score of From then on it was all the Braves as Deanni served seven straight with the team making the appropriate plays and Altamont Their atto the break Braves tempts momentum by taking two time outs failed and the Braves moved on to the consolation champ15-- 9, 9-- 9. g. ionship game.
