Several types of competition were held including some chapter competition. The members are most proud of these awards because they represent everyone in the chapter. South Summit won 13 chapter awards, six of those were first place awards. One of the most prestigious awards was the Gold ' Seal Chapter Award. Team awards were won by Marilyn Jepsen and Angelete Distefano with their presentation on Free Enterprise. They won first place in that- area. The 2S-2- 6. and Bryan Wilde in Whos Who in FBLA. The most prestigious individual awards given at the conference are Mr. and Ms. FBLA. Each of the first place winners are awarded $250. This year Margaret Weller was awarded 6th place and Bryan Wilde was the first place winner. Bryan has been working for .this award since he was in grade and justly deserves that recognition. He has been the chapter president this year and has contributed many hours of service. He will represent the state of Utah at the National Competition in June. the-nint- . - parlimentary procedure team took second place, That team consisted of Lisia Ruf, David Ruf, Cheryl Anderson, Jodie Norton, and Julie Brown. Because of their high scores on the written test, Lisia and Julie will be representing the state as part of the state team. Individual awards were also won by the South Summit Chapter. Those honors went to Preston Fuelling, 6th place in Job Interview; Nathan Leithead, 9th place in Business Math; i Wendy Action, 3rd in Shorthand II; and Margaret Weller 4th ' place in Shorthand II. Superior ' ratings were given to Lisia Ruf . Another honor that came to South Summit was Mtfrgaret Weller being chosen as a finalist in the "Vocational Excellence Award". Final competition for this award will be held later iii May. Utah State officers were also chosen for 1986-8Preston will new be the Fuelling president for the State of Utah, David Ruf will be the Mountain-Basi- n Vice President, and Julie Brown will be- the State Parliamentarian. Julie won her position by scoring the highest on the parliamentary test out of all the sophomores and juniors Vho took the test - David Ruf, State Vice President of Mountain -Basin; State President for 1986-8FBLA Preston Fuelling, and Julie Brown. 7. David Ruf, Jufie Brown, Cheryl Anderson, Jodi Norton, Lisia Ruf, was the Parliamentary Procedure Team, second in state, Julie Brown, and Usia-Ru- f wXl be on the State Team at Nationals. The' South Summit Rodeo Club was pretty busy this past weekend as they traveled to the three qualifying rodeos that were held on the 9th and 10th. Even, " two places went to two cowgir Sue Summit. Thacker got the 1st and Marci Mitchell the 2nd place buckles. Trent Atkinson also got 3rd in Annette calf roping. and Melonie Kirkham both participated in the queen contest and did very well. Down the road about miles was the Carbon Co. Rodeo in Price. Brent and Kirk Crystal won 3rd place in the team roping, Lisa Richmond, 3rd in breakaway, and Trent Atkinson got 2nd in the calf roping. The Emery Rodeo was next in line at Ferron. Brent and Kirk Crystal finished 4th in team roping, Shana Gines won 2nd in goat tying and Lisa Richmond took 5th. Monday, May 5, the 16 cheerleaders tried out in front of the APPLIANCE SERVICE 783-249- Off Then it was nomination time for studentbody offices. The students voted on the nominations during second hour to narrow the nominations down to 12 cheerleaders and two finalists in each office. Running for President were: Tracey Leithead, Preston Fuelling; Vice President: Bert Wilde, 'Cornell Atkinson; Secretary: Anna Street, Julie Brown; Historian: Nathan Leithead, Kim Richardson; Girls Chairman of .'.'J : Entertainment: Sheri Housel, COUNTY ALL BRANDS REPAIRED REASONABLE RATES COUPON GOOD FOR 5.00 Julie Woolstenhulme; Boys Chairman of Entertainment: Dusty The 12 Hatch, David Ruf. cheerleadering candidates were: Angel Distafeno, Jennifer Beer, Shannon Swena, Jenette Angel, Teri Shoda, Missy McNeil, Jenny Park, Tami McCormick, Kara Page, Shanae Simpson, Nylene Fisher, Melonie Kirkham. The finalists were divided into the green and white parties... and the campaigning began. Learning cheers, making signs, practicing skits, and last but not least... buying supplies. Those who were brave enough to show up in Kamas got a real treat. Cars were plastered with eggs, crisco, shaving cream, soap, orea cookies, mustard, ketchup, caramel topping, and toilet paper. Tuesday was more campaigning. ..and Tuesday night was just like Monday.. .from throwing eggs, to washing your car six times within the hour. Wednesday was the final day for campaigning and ended with the elections. The two parties each put on a skit and gave campaign speeches,' the cheerleaders all did cheers. All those running for office found out just how hard it was to wait four hours wondering if they got elected or not The installation assembly began at 2:40, the moment everyone had been waiting for.
