Fine-woo- families and Scouting leaders shared the planning and participation to make it a memorable occasion. The Pinewood Derby is a family affair. The boys receive their race car kits from their den leader. They take them home where family or friends help them to transform a block of wood, four pins, and four wheels into a custom-mad- e race car. These cars must meet certain specifications in order to be eligible to compete in the Derby; such as weight and measurements. Otherwise, a boy's imagination is the limit. Winners in this years Derby were as follows: Rory Jenson, First Championship; Shane Olsen, Second Championship; Tom Buck and David Behrendt, (tie), Third Championship; Kent Pace, First Consolation; Sam Garfield, Second Consolation; Ray Jacobson, Third Consolation; Wade Smith, Sportiest; Jay Kumlien, Sleekest; Tyler Lewis, Best Custom; Brandon Jenkins, Best Workmanship; Sandy Winters, Most Original; Matthew Mecham, Most Realistic; Dayne hadlock, Most Colorful; Mark Calderwood, Best Design; and Kelly Clark, Judges' Choice. Because of all the hard work put into these cars and the good sportsmanship shown by the boys, we feel that each one was a winner. Prior to the race, the boys and their families enjoyed a spaghetti dinner. Decorations were all done in blue and gold. The boys in their den meetings had woven 1 place mat of blue and gold strips, one for each member of their family. Den leaders and mothers made cupcakes with yellow icing and a blue and yellow flat on each to use as table decorations. Each boy received an attractive trophy which consisted of a d race car and a gold-lacqure- yellow flag with the words "Pinewood Derby 1981, both of which were glued to a block of wood. On the front of the base was printed the category in which the boy won. We feel that the success of this years banquet was due to the enthusiasm and hard work of the boys, their parents and Scouting leaders. Special guests at the Banquet were Bishop Lloyd Crittenden and Sister Betty Crittenden. Leaders of Pack 133 who attended the event were Bob Banz, Cubmaster; Donald Mech- am Assistant Cubmaster; Pat Mecham, Dean Doris Smith, Den comforted and assisted them during the illness and death of 2 Leader, and Leader.
