Junior Holy Name Society The Junior Holy Name Society welcomes as its new Moderator the Reverend Father Ruel. The Society accepts with regret the resignation of Jack Quillanan, treasurer. Jack is now attending Detroit University and the good wishes of the boys are with him. Milton Kelley has been elected treasurer for the remainder of the term. On October 10th, day of the Monthly Communion, the boys were treated to a breakfast served under the auspices of the Catholic Womans League. Mrs. D. Barnhart, of the Parochial School Committee, was in charge of arrangements and Mrs. J. C. Baker and Mrs. Mattie Fisher supervised in the kitchen. The Society takes this occasion to thank the League and to offer special thanks to those members who served the boys. The Society, has formally applied for the use of the Central High School Gymnasium one night a week during the winter months. A favorable reply is expected. Junior Holy Name has taken another big step in "promoting activities for its members. This year, for the first time in the history of the Society, a football squad represents J. H. N. on the gridiron. It was organized by the Reverend Moderator, who assumed charge of the coaching and who is assisted by Edward Dowling, former Ogden High School star center. First class equipment has been procured and the boys present a snappy-lookin- g appearance. John Murphy, fullback, has been elected captain. Albert Gay is to manage. The team is composed of Murphy, Crites, Gay and Mussleman, in the backfield; F. Foley, ONeil, Blaes, Manning, Arnold, J. Foley and Daz, on the line; King, Kelley, OConnor, Kowatski, Kennedy and Dermody, substitutes. J. H. N. opened its football season on October 19th, going against the heavy Ogden High second team. The boys put up a remarkable showing against the heavier and more experienced high school men. It was only in the last quarter that Ogden High was |
