Butch" Miller on May 9, 1939. He died February 5, 1993. She is survived by her children, Shirley Olsen, Betty (James) Miller, Nancy (Craig) Hofeling, all of Salt Lake City; Dennis (Diane) Miller, Duchesne; 11 grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren, and 2 great-gregrandchidlren. She was preceded in death by her Bruce husband, son, Jim, Olsen, one grandson, parents, a sister and two brothers. Graveside services will be held 12:00 noon, Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at the Strawberry Cemetery. Viewing will be held at the Duchesne Stake Center, 90 1 North 500 East, Duchesne, UT, from 10-- 1 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Close to a century later descendants of homesteaders come "home" for reunion Submitted by Leslie Larsen years after settling in the descendants of Christian and Cynthia Larsen are meeting again this weekend for their family reunion. Christian Larsen was born Sept, 27, 1866 to Lars Christian and Hansena Peterson. He was the eldest often children. He was in algebra, mathematics, and an excellent speller. Cynthia Keele was born April 27, 1875 to Thomas and Mary Angeline Jolley Keele. She was the tenth of eleven children. Schooling was hard to come by in those day and she was only able to complete the fourth grade. She was very athletic and a very good cook. Dick Keele, Cynthia's brother, introduced Christian to Cynthia when her entire family was down with typhoid fever. Christian rode his horse to Cast lc Dale to get the needed medicine. There were many days when Christian would go to her home and fan her feverish brow. Christian and Cynthia were married March 27, 189$. In 1911, Christian and Cynthia Larsen packed up their family and belongings, sold their property, and moved to the Uintah Basin, settlingin Ninety-on- e the Uintah Basin, well-educat- 1 ! Antelope, and later in Red Cap. They lived in a tent for the rest of the summer until their new log home wax built and ready for occupancy that fall or winter. Pioneering had many hardships, but Cynthia never complained. The family always milkedafew cows, raised pigs, chickens, and on weekends, they took their butter and eggs to town where Cynthia traded them for groceries, clothing, and other items. Christian nearly always had a span of young work horses to sell every spring; which brought a good price. Christian also served as Emery County Commissioner for a time. Christian and Cynthia Larsen raised a respectable family. The Larsen home was always the center of some activity. The family played at many community dances; Milton played the piano accordion, James the fiddle, Archie the baijo, and Leah the piano. Christian Larsen died on July 4 in 195 land Cynthia Larsen died on April 12, 1970. All of their children have now passed away. The last child, James Larsen, passed away the beginningof this year at the age of 98. The only Jiving spouse to any of the children is Grace Larsen, wife ofArchie. She cur- rently resides in Evanston, Wyoming withher youngest daughter and her ujpr- grown in size. This weekend, June 28, 29, and 30, the descendants of Christian and Cynthia Larsen wiQ gafhefit the Rock Creek Guest Ranch to celebrate the couple and their children that began this great family, and the special love received from them all.
