I never thought any grass would ever grow there plus that anyone would ever be hitting any golf balls. is Now return to 2001-the- re plenty ofgrass and Im trying to keep the ball on the city property and not the homes nearby. Years ago I kept putting tee shots into someone 'syazd, and a home owner started screaming at me to keep away from his windows. However, the more I tried the worse I did. My golf balls were turning this guys home into a artillery range. He blew his stack and I think he wanted with his to give me a hole-in-oown club. Finally, I straightened up and made him happy. Im proud to report I only hit two balls into someones yard, and the closest I came to any windows was a wooden shed tliat took the attack and saved the glass. I finally finished ipy bucket ofballs, butl got my money's worth. I discovered it had been while for me on the links when . a I found a score card that had at the bottom the name of then golf pro, Denny Bearden. The good news was that I found out I had shot a 75. Don't stop the presses the tally was for nine holes. I decided to purchase a supersized bucket ofballs, which almost turned out to be a big mistake. I had forgotten my old brick of buying a small' bucket and then recovering the ones that only went a short distance for a retry with my faithfUl No. 1 wood. Roosevelt Golf Course pro, Dan Wilcox stated that he wasnt at the meeting for golf, but swimming. I have no problem trying to head the indoor swimming pool committee. Ultimately we need a place for our kids." The Union High School swim team has had a larger team in the past, but it is currently down to three members, according toSunny Hatch, who is a parent of one of the swimmers. They currently travel an hour round trip to compete at the Vernal Indoor Pool, Monday through Friday during the season. The poolin Vernal needs to be updated and isnt sustaining itself, which has been the concerns if such an indoor facility is built in Roosevelt. Hatch commented that it is a Big Commitment to be a swimmer, and added that many aren't big enough for football or tall enough for basketball. I'm from California and at least I had the ocean. Swimming is my rehab .and is my thing, she said. It is a long drive to go swimming, and the Venial pool is in bad shape. Abusiness plan was a mqjor focus point during the meeting; and that an indoor pool wont be happeningin Roosevelt for several years. We have to go into this with a business frame of mind. It will take time with a five year plan, Wilcox commented. Lisa Patterson, a former Canadian National team swimmer, who described her hometown as so small that it didn t have a McDonalds, said, They (the youth) neud some place to go. She pointed out that Roosevelt has it made when compared to the boredom in her Canadian town. Also, during the meeting a need for an AAU program during the summer, which could be a feeder program for the high school team, was stressed. Patterson expressed getting the YMCA involved would be a big help. API donated $250 and Wilcox has donated the same from his business to get things started for an indoor pool. The bank is still in business and is now known as Key Bank. I buried the tee back in my bag because I just can't stand the thought ofbreak- ingit in two like my old piggy bank if I got offs powerful shot over the fende and out in the street, A long time ago, I played some holes as a twosome with a guy, who turned out to have been a candidate for one ofthe Roosevelt City Council seats. He received only 11 votes, and I told him he should have had only eight since I voted for him andtalked my parents, Ann and Orlie into doing the same because he listed his birth- place as Chicago, Illinois. We figured he was a Cubs fan, and then he said, Im a White Sox fan!" I wish I had my vote back. How-ever, I have my revenge as the No. 1 Loud Mouth in the baseball world (although there is nothingwrong with that), former New York Yankee pitcher, David Wells is a Sox.
