Show 8 The Uintah Basin Standard BUILDING A BRIGHT FUTURE Altamont High Sterling By Rachell Mitchell After careful consideration, a student of exceptional value was selected in each area of learning to represent Altamont High in the annual Sterling Scholar competition. Donna Barton, who is the continuing Sterling Scholar coach in Altamont, will assist the 1 1 outstanding youth. The competition will take place on Monday, April 23, in Vernal. The community would like to extend a wish of good luck to the team of talented individuals in hopes that they might aspire to any Sharley April 25. 2001 cj dream they wish to conquer. Representing Altamont High in the area of Computer Technology is Bronden Jessup, the son of Dave and Kathie Jessup. Bronden has excelled in various computer classes, and is the Yearbook Layout Design Editor. He is also an Eagle Scout and serves as the president of the Seminary Council. After the completion of an LDS mission, Bronden will go to college and seek a business degree. In Science, Jake Rick Oman will compete. He is the son of Rick and Lori Oman. Jake has won the District Science Fair two consecutive years. He is also the Science Club president and a Teaching Science Mentor at Altamont Elementary. This year, at the 2001 State Forensics Competition, Jake placed first, undefeated in the area of Spar or spontaneous argumentation. Jake Oman plans on attending Southern Utah University on an academic scholarship. After which he hopes to obtain a career in anaesthesiology. Sarah Bird will grace the floor in Dance. She is the daughter of Naomi and Daniel Bird. Sarah has been a valuable member of the drill team for mistress two years, and was a her second year. She was also a ' and All- member of the Drill is Teams. Sarah a member Region of the Altamont Seminary Council. With the mastering of high school, Sarah will go to college to study computers and business. Melissa Cheree Fausett will compete in Family and Consumer Sciences. She is the daughter of Bob and Carrie Fausett. Melissa is the FCCLA President and the senior class president She also shares the responsibility of being the yearbook coeditor. This year she received her Young Women's Medallion. Melissa desires to go to college and obtain a bachelors degree in Business Marketing. Chase Walker, son of Brent and Jesse Ree Walker, will compete in Trade and Technical Education. At age eight Chase learned to weld and has been working for other people since he was ten years old . He has held a paying job for six years in welding and heavy machinery. He has been able to operate backhoes, D8 D7 Bulldozers, And 130G and 14G Graders for seven years. With the needed experience to back him up, Chase hopes to further his education at the Divers Institute of Technology in Seattle, Washington. After which he will pursue a career in underwater welding. Business and Marketing will be represented by Sharley Thayne, the daughter of Johny and Debbie Thayne. Sharley is the Altamont Future Business Leaders of America President She is also the yearbook Along with being awarded her Young Women's Medallion, Sharley had the honor of accepting - Thayne Business and Marketing Chase Walker Trade and Technical Education co-dr- ill f All-Sta- te Lynette Burton Speech anil Drama . fftj Roosevelt City To become a Sterling Scholar means honor, prestige, recognition and hard work, too. It means waiting and anticipation as the judges interviews are conducted and portfolios are examined. Roosevelt City salutes the Sterling Scholar candidates for their dedication to high academic standards.
